Came across a good video highlighting some of Pacquiao's defensive movements & counters of his which has been an underrated quality of his due to mass perceptions of him being a certain kind of fighter with some calling him being easy to hit & just last week posters referring to him as low IQ, you really do have to slow it down with him to appreciate more of his work, Thought i'd post it here if anyone wanted to check it out: This content is protected
Pacquiao is low key slick. He went through Mayweather (some jabs and counters, but barely anything), Rios, Algieri, Hatton, Oscar, Vargas, Bradley (III), and Mosley virtually untouched.
Yeah this video is well made but it didn't even include most his fights where he really was slick, eg: like the Jeff Horn fight where he was making him miss in all ways.
Pacquiao was superb defensively but he quite simply had no qualms about getting into wars and taking hard shots. He was a showman through and through
Mayweather mentioned he was a lot harder to land on than he expected. And yes, he virtually landed nothing except for the first rd right hand. Margarito fight has some great sequences with Pacquiao blocking, dodging and countering at the same time during exchanges of combinations.
I noticed in the first jmm fight he pacman, was using a lot of head movement. That was his "old" style he always said his fav fighter is Mike Tyson, perhaps some self training slipped in and made him like that lol. But yeah it is what it is, hurky jurky head movement. Until he was trained more with Freddie Roach who helped refine his style.
His defense, counter punching and ring IQ has always been his most underrated asset and it still is to this day. He has an unorthodox style of fighting that works well for him. Outside of JMM and his much earlier fights he rarely gets dropped in the ring.
