    ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

    ^
^ In the article... the writer theorizes that Manny Pacquiao in his earlier years (both before and with Freddie Roach)
relied heavily on quick footwork to be able to punch his opponents and elusively get out of the way from counters.

The writer also mentioned how Manny's thick calves for a man his size + fast twitch muscle fibers contributed greatly towards such quick and accurate footwork.

In the video provided you can clearly see the effects of this when he fought Cotto.. Manny was superb with getting in, punching and not getting punched in return.

^ The Cotto fight happened in 2009.....

Now compare it to his most recent fights (Bradley, Marquez 4, Rios, Algieri and Mayweather Jr) You can clearly see a major difference in his footwork.

It appears to me that Manny is not utilizing the same in/out footwork he was using to great success back in 2008-2009..
Instead he seems to be gravitating towards more conventional
boxing defense/offense. Just watch his fight with Floyd and you'll know what I mean. Doesn't rush in as much with caution to the wind of yesteryears. He's more... "boxer" like now.

Which gets me to wondering....... Maybe Manny Pacquiao's success had a lot to do with his original style relying heavily on his youth and natural physique.. Now that he is 36 his body is starting to age more and what he had is not what it was???

Question is.... Can a fighter with Manny's style adjust with age the way Floyd's style was able to adjust with age?????

Will we see an evolving Manny Pacquiao in his next few fights with successful conventional boxing skills?? Or did the mega fight convince you that his best years are behind him and he better ease off from boxing???

    Thoughts??

#48's footwork isn't textbook no trainer in the sport would teach you that footwork in any gym in the world. He's often off balanced with his foot in the air or crossed feet and doesn't cut off the ring at all. #48 has explosive footwork and while it's enough to beat most even really good fighters boxing masters with a high ring IQ and educated footwork themselves can counter it effectively. This is what you saw for large stretches of #48-JMM and for the entirety of PBF-#48.

In conclusion his natural athletic ability allowed him to be successful jumping in and out looking fantastic but certain guys can counter it and even take advantage of it.

efficient=effective smartass. pacquiao's footwork used to be phenomenal. he use to hop in throw a combo and hop out, he was a lot faster back then.

Pac's footwork is all over the place, great footspeed but his placement is not technically correct.

Manny Pacquiao is a freak of nature. No one can do what he does. His non-textbook technique works very well for him.

I mean how many times did Pac get Mayweather on the ropes? You probably can count it on one hand.

People please join a boxing gym and learn a thing or two.

There is a difference between FOOT SPEED and FOOT WORK.

Manny has great foot sleed but his foot work is not that great. Let me give you a better example. James Toney alwayd had damn good foot work but his foot speed wasn't that great.

#48 never clearly beat JMM there's a reason why he fought him 4 times.:deal JMM had #48 figured out midway through their first fight dummy.:deal

Read your words again. Hop in and hop out. He has great foot speed but his foot work is not great.

textbook is i guess another word for proper technique, his footwork would disrupt and has disrupted pretty much every fighter he's fought, so i think that kind of makes his footwork "proper". what about roberto duran?

How many boxing trainers would teach #48's footwork in their gym? His footwork isn't proper if you say that you don't know **** about boxing. It works for him but it's not proper it's not good and it's not textbook.:deal

Duran's footwork is not like Pac's at all IMO. I mean they both bounce around sometimes, that's all.
