Now, I have never really understood this whole thing about weigh-in weights, walk-around weights and fighting weights. How much weight does a fighter gain on average between his weigh-in, and the time he steps into the ring? And how much weight gain between the weigh-in and the fight would be considered a helluva lot?
I don't understand what Bunce means at the end of this blog. Is he saying that for Manny to have gained 16lbs in 48hrs for the Marquez fight was a bad thing, that it was too much, that Manny was in bad shape, that it hindered his performance? Or was he saying Manny is too big for the 130lbs weight category? Is he saying that 5ft 6 is too short to carry 146lbs??

If Manny gained 16lbs in 48hrs for that fight, does that mean that fighters who move up to weight divisions that they are not natural at (ie DLH moving up to middle to fight Hopkins, or Mayweather moving up to light middle to fight DLH) can drop weight after the weigh-in, and their opponents can gain weight, meaning that although they are fighting at a certain weight category, there can be about 20lbs between them??

I really don't understand this. How can a human body gain 16lbs in a day or two?!?!

PS: to those of you who understand all of this, what great achievements have therefore been made by guys fighting at not their natural weight? I know Jones beat Ruiz, but Ruiz was pretty **** eh? How about James Toney or Holyfield or Sugar Ray Leonard or Tommy Hearns or indeed Pacquiao, or any others you can think of, who achieved great things with great weight disadvantages??

A fit human body can gain and lose weight very easily, and by carbing up you are bound to increase greater than what you normally would.

Whilst fightig in the weight divisions that Pacquiao has is an achievement, it must be remembered that he was just a boy when he turned pro - and demographics has an impact on how quickly you 'fill out'. British kids tend to fill out around 15/16, I certainly did, with Americans a couple of years later and others even later than that.

Why that is, I have no idea.
