Manny did not realize this. Oh wow. Now I have heard everything.

Boxing is one of the few sports that have clearly and unequivocally devlolved. The guys in prior years would have owned the fighters today.

I gave the context of Marquez and Mosley and you quoted it. He could have KO'ed them but did not. They are applicable because they are in the spirit of what Manny is talking about.

I think Floyd is a good puncher that is why he KO's fighters. but, that list you posed is nothing compared to the chins that Robinson dented. The thread is not does power make a fighter great. It is that Floyd cannot compare to SRR because he did not finish fighters like Robinson did. That is Manny's argument, which I happen to agree with.

Mayweather is not the finisher Robinson is therefor with a weaker resume and very little killer instinct Mayweather is lesser than Robinson.

I honestly do not understand where you are coming from with all this. But, if you feel you are right that much, than yes, I am blathering.

If you could do me a favor. Sum up what you think so I can read it objectively instead of trying to defend an attack. I want to understand you perspective if you would like to fairly give it.

    Thanks either way. Peace.

Why does a boxer have to KO his opponents if he can beat them with out doing so, and do it convincinly. To do such a thing to so many opponents is atcually harder then knocking them out.

I guess ESB posters don't have much respect for Ali, Pep, and Loughran.

    Ha!

Boxing is like no other sport.

Track and field records get broken.

Are all today's fighters better than their predecessors?

    No!

Usain Bolt is the fastest man to ever live.

That does not mean that today's top guys would beat all the top fighters of the past.

What are you talking about 100-0 EASY?

Floyd has had 45 fights. He's retired once, and normally fights once per year. He has a ten week camp, and then a long rest to heal.

How would he have done in the 40's, fighting up to once per month?

Do you think if Floyd fought 200 times until his early 40's like SRR, that he'd have gone undefeated?

    Today's conditioning?

    Are fighters today better conditioned?

    Really?

Go and show me some overweight fighters of the past, who were badly conditioned, who gassed after a few rounds.

There's loads of guys that fight today, who should be thankful that 15 round fights were abolished.

Well if you have heard everything, you sure didn't pay attention. Of course boxing has evolved. A few things that have changed/Evolved:

One hour Weigh-ins to Same day Weigh-ins, Eventually, becoming 24hour weigh-ins

    15 round title fights---12 rounds

Added weight classes-so guys could fight guys there own size

    Better Gloves, Mouth Pieces

Rule Changes like-Standing 8 count and going to the Neutral Corner, which prevented fighters from hovering over a down oppenent.

You know what all these things have in common? They were designed to protect the fighter.

I never suggested that Mayweather invented the jab or the Shoulder roll.
I said his style-how he combines the various punches and defenses for effect. Is new and will change the sport.

Manny clearly favors an aggressive boxer puncher. The problem with that is you are most vulnerable when punching. The traditional boxer throws about 60 punches a round but only lands about 25%-30% of his punches. Which would be about 15 punches a round.

Floyd has developed a style where he throw about half as many punches but still lands the same 15 punches as the traditional combinations would give a boxer. Which is why his punch stats are between 40-50%. He has also reduced the oppurtunity of his opponents to counter by half. Which is why you see his opponents landing is the single digits.

It's a style thats designed to win. So, a traditional trainer like Manny would favor somebody else like Tommy or Ray.

And the reason I say its going to change is because I am in the gym, noone these days wants to end up with Vision loss, diminished capicty, slurred speech, Migranes, Cali-flower ears, and hooks for Hands. The sport is changing embrace it.

Almost forgot, the guys from previous eras would not own the fighters of today. There have been a few standouts through out the history of the sport. But, for the rest you can easily find a fighter today on the same level as any boxer you can think of.
