I haven't agreed with the criticism of Manny over the years, but last night I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Cintron had no head movement at all and was schooled to use that stupid cross defense with his left that DIDN'T WORK FOR A SECOND. He would also try to slip back against the wide punches which can work, but never seems to against Margo because he really gets great reach on them. Totally **** poor technique in terms of movement, defense, staying in the right position, staying out of the wrong possition, you name it. Cintron would lose 10 out of 10 to Margo because he's just not as good, but he had no chance to survive with that shitty training.

Manny Steward doesnt give a rip about Kermit Cintron, never did. Just another way for him to get a paycheck, a slot on HBO, and another "champion" on his resume of fighters trained.

Last night was about the most lackluster nonchalant training job ive ever seen in a world championship fight. Cintron was getting busted up from the inside out and each time he would take a seat on the stool steward had nothing to say.

Kermit you wasted alot of money, get someone who gives a **** about you.

I think Dan Birmingham would be a good trainer for Kermit.

Steward was exposed many, many fights ago. What irritates me is that after his fighter loses, he seems happy like nothing happened. Like nothing bad happened.

    STEWARD IS A JOKE!

Dude, AT WHAT POINT, do you say that his fighter's aren't listening as an excuse? Almost every month one of his fighter seems to get owned. Get real man. His time has passed. Whatever "it" he had as a trainer, he has lost it.

    i totally AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how on earth could ANY BOXING TRAINER let cintron fight margo unless there was no other way????

everyone with ten cents worth of boxing knowlege knew that margo was ALL WRONG for cintron. that "styles make fights" and that margo was always gonna be cintrons achilles heel.

if he couldnt think this up himself, he should have read all the predictions (for example graham houstons) and listen to what they had to say.

Wow - one of his fighters lost.

I would hardly say that this is the end of Manny Steward - Cintron lacks the necessary skills to maintain a long run as a champ, he probably has the worst jab of any fighter I have seen from Steward's stable, and he was shite inside, totally got dominated.

    Let's be real here, ok?

Lennox Lewis would probably have recovered after the McCall loss on a good note anyways, considering that McCall went bat**** afterwards and wasn't around for an immediate rematch. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that hey maybe you were a little too antsy and that's why you got knocked out. Lewis could have (and probably did) figured that out on his own.

It isn't to say that he isn't a good trainer but he isn't a legend. Maybe a legend in his own mind if such a thing exists.

Well, Manny Stewards best fighter is Hearn's, who even if you don't like Manny you have to admit he did teach him everything he knew.
But Tommy had one thing Cintron will never have, and that was a huge heart, he would never quit.
If you look at the first Margarito-Cintron fight, you can see he just doesn't have the warrior spirit a strong boxer needs.

Plus I think Manny has lost his love of training, it's different now. He's already rich, and most of the boxers he takes on are already champions, or close to champion status. Where as back in the day, he'd take these young fighters off the streets of Detroit and both fighter and trainer would work incredibly hard to make it into the big time.

You are right about the heart thing.

I remember listening to the pre-fight Cintron HBO hype and Cintron himself said that he got into boxing because he needed the money. Right then I turned to my comrade and said "this is why Cintron won't ever be elite. You can't get into boxing just to make money"

Manny trains more chinless wonders than ANY other trainer out there.

Also, the fact he is smiling right after his guy get's KTFO is distrubing.

I love it when one of Steward's fighters lose. I've never been a fan of his and I agree with the poster who said that Wladimir is his main concern. He's also a total front-runner who will bail the moment things get bad.

He had Shannon Briggs for one fight against Botha. Briggs did horrible and was lucky to get a draw. One and done for Steward.

Jermain Taylor took Steward on as his trainer and actually regressed as a fighter. The moment Taylor lost, Steward was gone. This move was probably right for both sides though.

Let's not forget Vivian Harris who was WBA champ and didn't even really need Steward but got him to be his trainer right before the Urkal rematch. Look what happened on the Gatti undercard. Harris bombs and Steward is gone after that fight. This is what a world champion looks like? Losing to Carlos Maussa? Give me a break.

Usually??? He was knocked out twice, by Hagler and Barkley, both times he got up (yeah, I know he was out of it but at least he got up).

The Sugar Ray fight he lost on stoppage which a lot of people think was a little early, and he lost a fight later on when he broke his leg or something.

He didn't have a fantastic chin, but it wasn't as bad as people make out.
