A trainer really can only do so much. Manny is a solid tried and tested boxing trainer, he knows what he can do and knows that you can't create a diamond ring from glass and wood. But... He has had a few fighters that have had similar traits.. ie.. (heavy punchers who are mobile and super rangey, but also have that common flaw.. They have very breakable chins..) Thomas Hearns is one.. Lennox Lewis is another along with your Milton Mcrorys and Kermit Cintrons.. you could also add a Jermaine Taylor to that.. even though Jermaine has a long history of not listening to what he is told.. I think he likes to try to make his fighters use what they have to avoid being hit and often works with guys who have less than stellar chins to make them work around that disabilty to become close as hell to unhittable to a certain extent , unfortunately only some can heed the teachings.. Wlad is that case ... he is a better fighter now and knows he his limitations, he is a better fighter defensively now.. Emanuel is a good trainer.. often you can only do so much.. i thought for a long while Kermit has trouble when his heart is questioned.... God bless..

So any time a fighter loses, his trainer is exposed? By that logic even Eddie Futch was a bum.

Don't forget Manny is also a Legendary Chef!

    Just ask Andy Lee. :D

I bet you a million bucks that the people making excuses for Steward are from the old school. If my assumptions are wrong, please forgive me. But i get the sense that the ones backing him up are still caught up on him PAST achievement to judge him RIGHT NOW.

I mean the guy just looks and acts like training fighters is a secondary job. The guy freaken took the booth RIGHT AFTER one of his fighters get worked and he had a smile on his face and talked about the fight as if he was just distantly related to the fight. I mean he was the freaken trainer in that fight and gave horrible instructions. And he looks like he could care less.

I think it's this type of attitude he brings that doesn't motivate his fighters. For crying out loud, he said that Andy Lee was one of the best prospects he's ever saw. Doesn't that say enough?????????

I am starting to lose faith in Manny after defending him recently.Someone stated earlier that it is the fighters fault not manny's, and that you can't create a diamond from glass but if you look at Manny's recent failures most of his pupils have been blue chip prospects.
Lee was not ready for a tough fight - that was Manny's fault IMO
Cintron's tactics against AM were just shocking from the get-go

I was surprised at his attitude after Citron got hammered again. He didn't seem to care at all.
If Lee was such a great prospect wasn't it Manny's job to make him a top notch contender?

Seriously, how much time elapsed from the time Cintron was called out to when Steward had that stupid smirk next to Lampley?

Yeah, he gave Cintron some bad advice but Cintron sucks ass inside and did so BEFORE STEWARD! That's my only real issue with attacking Steward. Manny didnt bring most guys up, he took over when these guy's were basically "finished" fighters. Meaning they had been trained to what they were for a long time by others. So to expect Steward to wave the magic wand and make it all better is a bit far fetched.
    Exposed? Well, that's overboard.

It seems Steward did/does care about Lee, he's been developing him for a while and? He picked the wrong Irishman:D A guy like McCloskey is going further than Lee will.

The only advice that could have worked for Cintron? IS DONT SIGN THE FIGHT!! I'm still not sure what pep talk they gave him after he was scared to fight Williams and then takes Marg again? Cintron got what was coming! I could care less to ever see him fight again. He doesnt have th heart or ability to compete with the top of 47. If you stuck EDDIE FUTCH in his corner, that wouldnt CHANGE.

Whatever other criticism you may level at Steward, I don't think this one holds much water. No doubt he had agreed to or, more likely, was under contract to do the commentary for the Cotto-Gomez fight, whether his fighter won or lost. The fact that he wasn't visibly upset seems to me to reflect on his professionalism rather than anything else. Could you imagine if he spent the entirety of the Cotto fight talking about how terrible he felt over Cintron losing?

I happen to agree with this thread. The fact that Cintron made the same stupid mistake as he did 3 years ago to me it says that his trainer did not taught him into another level... I really believe that trainers, just like boxers have a pick and a prime in their careers. They need to understand when it's a good time to step down.

In Manny's case, he seems to be more concentrated in doing the comentary on HBO so perhaps he should concentrate on that or at least, not being involved on the same show were he needs to be a trainer/comentator.

Anyway, I feel bad for Cintron that after a devastating lost his trainer just left him to do some comentary work.

Let's not forget Steward trained and swore by Tye Fields. Went on to say he was very talented, too. It was at that point and time I realized Steward had lost his mind!!!
Granted that Cintron has some character flaws and all, BUT, let's not forget Steward is getting paid and should have done his job to the end. That means taking his fighter to the dressing room, caring about him, maybe going to the hospital if that was necessary, (and more than likely it was). He didn't fulfill his obligation to this fighter, and that should not be overlooked by other fighters he is training. Seems like his heart is next to Lampley, not next to his fighters.
