The only thing he does effectively as a trainer is teach big fighters how to utilize their physical advantages ( Hearns, Lewis, WALDO ), and I gotta admit he works very well with certain types, especially WALD.. but other than that he's not someone I'd spend my money on if I was a pro.
overrated trainer and fight analyst to say the least. He is biase towards fighters he has worked with or previously trained.
His list of accomplishments as a trainer speaks for itself. He has worked with numerous world champions and contenders that bare his mark. Holyfield was better after having worked with Steward. This may because a willingness to learn after his first loss, but he was still better. Holyfield was placing less weight on his lead leg, getting more leverage on his punches, and regaining the heavyweight title. Maybe the list of fighters he has worked with lately are a bit overated, and no matter who coaches them, and destined to lose the big fights.
very true...and despite steward never being a pro fighter himself, he treats every ****n fighter like **** after a loss, b/c of course, its never his fault
Ha ha. Actually, he's done good things with fighters such as Hearns and Lennox and now Wladimir. More than anything, I think it's mostly up to the fighter to have the ability and to want to improve. I do think Roach is clearly better than Steward for preparing a gameplan.
I guess because Steward "doesn't even bother with defense" Klitschko became very difficult to hit.... another "genius" spoke his "great" boxing mind....
He's bias as hell but not overrated ... but I think he's supposed to be bias if he trained them in the past or trains them now. He's a good trainer only if his fighters listen to him ... I seen examples of Jermain Taylor, Naseem Hamed, and Vivian Harris get in trouble for not listening to steward.
Jermain getting rid of him was the best thing he has done for his carrer. I think Jermain took a bunch of **** because everyone blamed him instead of looking at steward. Look how the rematch went Ozell Nelson did a much better job than Steward. I think Jermain won but thats not the point. The point is Steward ****ed Taylor.
I see Emanuel Steward as a good trainer but only if the fighter can benefit him .... Lennox Lewis and Wlad Klitschko and maybe Thomas Hearns. The fact that he hated on Tyson pissed me off ... he hates on Floyd Mayweather all the time ... but turns around and praises DLH and Hatton? I don't get it ...
