To be fair, Cintron even admitted that he didnt follow the game plan and he just wanted to "bang" as he felt he was getting the better of Margarito. Blame that on Cintron's ring IQ.

I have a feeling dealing with a big superstar trainer like Steward isn't what some boxers need. He is a guy, who I'm sure, doesn't have that much time to dedicate to a fighter, in comparison to perhaps a lesser known trainer. He's older now and maybe doesn't posses the same type of fire nor time he once had. Besides that, its hard for someone like Steward to come around so late in a fighter's career and really make a difference. Also, maybe Steward's style didn't mesh too well with Cotto's natural style.

You make a point about styles.
Steward success has come training fighters with significant height and reach advantages.

Steward has a knack to guide such tall fighters and advise gameplans that take advantage of that height and reach.

I would say Emmanuel Stewards most sucessful fighters were Hearns, Lewis, and now Wlad.....all tall fighters for their weight classes.

Miguel Cotto is an average sized, maybe even stocky built for his weight class fighter who's best asset would be to get on the inside and work the body.

What averaged sized fighter (not tall) has Steward had under his tutelege that he's had success with??????

Can anyone point me to a Steward success story

when I heard he dropped Steward that is when I think Cotto will lose. Steward had the knowledge to help Cotto with an opponent in Margarito which is always difficult for him.

Cotto's shortcomings for margarito were not technical but more so of conditioning, he and steward had already been working on the margarito strategy which is why he took the Mayorga fight for a tune up. Steward's plan was box and pace. He needs to be ready for a full 12 rounds. If im not mistaking Miguel was up on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

    it was technical

he wouldnt have worn out so quick had he not been bouncing up and down uselessly, that was the first thing manny tried to correct; his footwork, he would bounce around with quiet a bit of intensity.

also steward told him instead of throwing 6-7 punch combos like he did he should have threw 2-3 and pivoted which again is also true, look at floyd fighting guys with similar style he threw 1-2 punches at a time.

Which boils down to pace...he started way to fast and didnt get any bodywork in either, by the time he figured out he couldnt get the job done going upstairs it was too late...on a side note even tho people like to talk **** about the outcome, in the first half of that fight Miguel was looking just ****ing AMAZING!

If Steward's plan was for Cotto to "box" Margo then he should have been fired. You don't box Margo, you go and attack him and put him on the defensive, P-Will and Shane did this, although they did it in different ways.
