Couldn't this man have survived much more time, given he looked in good health, wasn't thin, etc.. ?

I remember Patrick Swayze and how he looked at the end, like a skeleton. But this was hardly the case with Manny.

Why doesn't the press ask the hard questions when it comes to survival times ?

He was just quiet about his issue. I don't think many people knew there was anything wrong with him until the end. He himself might not have known until too late to properly treat the cancer also. Maybe some of you knew he had cancer long before he passed, but I sure didn't.

Rest in peace, Mr. Steward. Detroit is falling apart without you. Bankrupt.
He should have been a politician. He probably cared more about his city than all the guys in charge did. Sorry to bring politics into this. I was reading up on the Detroit issues right before reading this thread.

Is it just possible that it was the cancer making them worse rather than the treatment?

That said, the more aggressive treatments do exact quite a toll on the body, but are usually only used when the cancer is gonna do worse.

    That's why i don't get it.
If you're ressembling a zombie whose limbs might fall of any time, i can understand you cannot be cured.

    But Manny LOOKED PERFECTLY FINE.
How do you go from looking perfectly fine to being dead in the space of a few weeks ?

The treatments such as radiation end up killing too many healthy cells as well, and if you are older, it takes longer to regenerate these cells.

At the same time, cancer cell can continue multiplying whilst the body is under shock radiotherapy treatment and a weakened immunue system.

Alternative medicines shouldn't be scoffed at though. Big Pharmaceutical companies dismiss them as it impacts their profits but simple things like blood cupping (removal of toxic blood), fasting, onion juice, tumeric dissolved in water can aid the recovery of the body very effeciently.

I remember last year I had very very bad knee problems from jogging. The pain was there whenever I walked up steps, walked or even got out of bed. Someone them told me to try 1 tea spoon of tumeric powder mixed in a glass of water for a week. Honestly, the pain went away after 4 days. Tumeric has anti inflammatory properties while helped my knees recover.

A friend of mine has had the same problem on and off since 2008 and he has been trying all sorts of creams, physio etc without much success. He also has the same dismissive view of alternative medicine as many people do.

It's also well known that many medicines are actually derived from plants anyway. They're not all synthesised from chemicals.

    Bad reaction to the treatment.

    Accelerated growth.

Depression also can weaken the immune system.

Many people, especially on this forum, don't beleive in God, but when it's your time to go... You will go. Some people with cancer will overcome it, some will live many years, some may die in months, but when time is up they will pass on. Every person through history has been born and has/will die, no exceptions.
Steward lived a pretty good life it seemed, was great in the world of boxing, and seemed like he was pretty good guy outside of boxing as well.
Of course it's sad to see people, or kids die young, but crazy thing is sometimes those people leave a better legacy than some of those who live to be 80 or 90 (who maybe did nothing with their life and helped nobody).

Of course as humans we don't think about death much, but nobody can promise tomorrow. The bible promises many things, but even it doesn't promise tomorrow. This is why we should live every day with meaning, purpose and enjoy the days we got.

Some people don't realize that Chemo is poison. It just so happens that its a poison that can put cancer in remission.

We will all die one day. No such thing as forcing someone alive when his/her time comes.
