Not a bad move. He looked lost against Pascal. He got to use his jab again and box like he use to. Hopefully, Steward can show him that again
It's not just Taylor. Look at Cotto now, boxing too much and not refining what made him such a threat. He did the same thing with Chavez too and it did not help the guy. I don't doubt Steward's prowess as a trainer, but some guys need different coaches to emphasize what they do best or rectify what they're doing bad. The last thing I want is for Dawson to pace himself even more, it's killing his career,
I think it's a good move. I can see Dwason maiking a comeback to the top 10 p4p list and hopefully get a fight with Ward, Bute or Froch in the future
I don't think "exciting" and "Dawson" belong in the same sentence. He will never be a puncher or relentless in his attack, but a thinker who likes to outbox the opponent over 12. Still, with any decent trainer he ought to beat Pascal in the rematch.
The worst part about Steward training Dawson, is that Steward doesn't focus enough on conditioning. And Chad is an 8-round fighter. Always has been.
I still think his 2 fight run with Mayweather Sr was the best Dawson looked his entire career. This combination of Steward & Dawson won't last long. As soon as Steward stops telling Dawson what he wants to hear, he's gone because Dawson can not take criticism. We are talking about a guy that has prolly had 10 trainers already in his career. As for Dawson-Pascal, Hopkins laid the blueprint for Dawson.
Dawson seems to have a lot of personal issues outside the ring, especially handling money, he spends it all. Hopefully Steward can give him some good advice about life. Hes got a lot of talent, but I think he may go the dumb way as Gerald Mclellan did. Steward will take too much of his money and he'll bolt.
Chad is a technical fighter, this is a good fit, Steward has had great success with tall lengthy guys. The best fit would obviously be Floyd Sr.
