He isn't Banks' chief trainer...he is just his manager. Showtime made a bigger deal about it than it was because they're idiots!! This is why Jonathan Banks wasn't phased about this in the slightest.
:huh You know, in all fairness, you sound like a very angry and abusive individual and it's because when Manny makes some very questionable comments about boxing that his knowledge comes under fire. It's quite debatable but no reason to go overboard.
If I seem that way, I apologize, but I'm not sorry. This is a ridiculous thread and most people giving this criticism have no idea how difficult the job of television or radio commentary is. Especially if you're a fighter or trainer with little or no formal education. It is ten times as difficult, I'm sure. If it's your right to voice your opinion about the subject, then it is definitely my right to be able to criticize your comments. Just take it like a man and think about what and why I'm posting in this manner.
He's a mercenary. I remember the Pavlik fight when JT was totally gassed, and Manny was like, "You got him right where you want him baby, he's tired out, go there and take this fight."
dont forget his stunning work with naz:rofl in honesty steward has made the kronk gym and that is saying a hell of alot...taylor didnt gel with his ways or vica versa but some guys seem to excel when he is training them.
Not really. He was favoring both in his commentating Margarito and Campbell in the early rounds of thier respective fights, when they both were probably losing those rounds (cotto and diaz).
Roy is great at.... 1. Breaking down the fights 2. Identifying strengths and weaknesses of the fighters 3. Explaining how the fighters are utilizing their skills 4. Noticing idiosyncrasies other people miss 5. Clearly and succinctly conveying his message, w/o cheerleading :yep 5. Not being drunk at ringside And while Manny is not the best at ringside commentary, he's a DAMN good trainer. Is he ideal for any fighter? Of course not, but he's certainly had a lot of success.
Bobby Czyz never sounded like a moron. This man is intelligent and actually more intelligent then some of those commentators you mentioned. His drinking was his downfall, but I would love to see him on HBO if they gave him a second chance.
True, I'm starting to like Max more and more. The shine is fading fast off Stewart. His high points were being in Holyfields' corner for his only win against Bowe- that was beautiful work and of course when McCall iced Lewis- who was in Oliver's corner- Steward. Steward in Lewis corner when he took care of a crying McCall. Not being in Banks corner didn't look good
Also agree. You can train a fighter with a good or great gameplan, but it is up the the fighter to execute. I think this is what happened with Taylor and Cintron. You can't hit a home run each and everytime with a fighter or champ. He is not perfect nor is Roach and others. Commentating; he has his ups and downs just like most.
