I understand that his accompishments are great, but it seems he has a formula for all his fighters these days... Jab, right hand, clinch... while this works for Vlad, its not the right style for Jermain Taylor. Jermain needs to relax, keep his hands up, and increase his punch output. Manny seems to not be able to get that out of him for whatever reason (and maybe it is the fighters fault). Anyways, I know many people will have a problem with the thread but its an honest inquiry. I just see Manny trying to adapt fighters to his style rather than him adapting to theirs. His commentating (fair or unfair on my behalf) also leads me to question his ability to assess his own performance.. i.e. he never admits he is wrong and constantly claims he predicted things to happen when he didnt. If he was not training Jermain properly, I question at this point whether he would be forthcoming about it.
Hes a great trainer but that has nothing to do with it, there are many great trainers, is all about the style that best suits a fighter. Its obvious that Stewarts not helping Jermain, thats not Mannys fault... Taylor would fair better with someone else.
Manny kept saying that Pavlik was fading fast. He said this each round. We all know that Palvik comes on stronger as the fight progresses.
Taylor's speed and athletic talents are wasted by Steward who has no clue at all, JT obviously had much faster hands than Pavlik who was at his best when JT backed up and went to the rope which he did in the 3rd round and the in the 7th when he got KO'd. Taylor's biggest flaw is his bad habit of going straght back instead of using his speed and circleing, he let Ouma and Winkydo it and got away with it but against a true big MW he payed dearly, it's something that is inexcusable as even the raw Berto used his superior speed and kept the fight in the middle of the ring during the middle and late rounds, JT should have done the same. Steward should be fired as he failed miserably at his job and JT has actually declined since working with him IMO.
