I'd love to see this fight, because Martinez would bring a different style and a real challenge. Pac is too good to be wasting his time with questionable opponents and Martinez would be a real test of Pac's abilities. Martinez would probably come down to 154 but asking him to put his middleweight title on the line at that weight doesn't seem reasonable. They'd have to fight at 155 at the lowest for that to happen.
That's the thing. Martinez is way too big for Pac but Martinez has no other options. He knows Mayweather is scared shitless and he already knows that Pac will fight him at a catchweight but as arum already stated, he won't let Pac fight at jr. middleweight ever again.
Martinez already said he cannot go below 154 and doesn't even know if he can make 154 anymore so not gonna happen
Nice. Let them fight at 154. Sergio would be a little drained at that weight. Pacman would probably weigh in at 146 and be in perfect condition. Pacman destroys him if they fight in those condition. And NEWWWWWWWWWWWW Middleweight champion...
They Pac probably looks at this is that if he's gonna fight Martinez, he wants to really get something out of it, like the 160lb title. You can't ask for unrealistic things though, like winning the title at 154, because it has to be over the junior middleweight limit. If you gonna make unrealistic demands, that means that you are not serious about the fight and might as well just pursue other things. They know the rules, and I wish that that wouldn't just make demands to look like they are willing to fight, when they aren't really.
I'm all for this fight as long as it means dropping the 154lb. title in a real manner and not the expected inactivity.
If Martinez AGREES to put HIS title on the line at a catchweight, what the **** is the problem? Can I remind the haters that Pac is a small welterweight? If an action-packed fight between him and Martinez requires neutralizing some of the advantages, what the **** is the problem? People act like Pac is 5' 10" and walks around at 170. atsch
By the **** that there is only an upper limit of 160 lb but there is NO LOWER LIMIT you moron. Othwerwise Roy Jones jr wouldn't won the HW title coming at 197lb. So any weight agreement below the limit of 160lb is fine and belongs to PERSONAL agreement between boxers, if they agrees to somethings and the boxing commission accept this then Martinez may fight even Vic Darchynian for this title at the catchweigth of 130lb.
Bottom line 154 and up Martinez beats the **** out of the Pinoy, and that is understood by anyone who knows boxing.
No people act like if he's going to play the "I'm too small" card, then don't fight for the ****ing title because obviously it's beyond your limitations.
You know, a few years back after the fight with Diaz I started a few threads about PAC fighting at WW with the likes of Cotto, Hatton, Mayweather and Margarito, and people (even HARDCORE *******S) were jumping on me that I'm PAC's hater and wish him sudden death. Now we are past Hatton, Cotto, Margarito and even DLH, only Mayweather is left from my list of names ... so saying that someone would beat the **** out of PAC just because he weights a bit more is highly underestimating PAC's skills and shows VERY limited boxing knowledge. PAC is too mobile, too skilled defensively that he could be easily knocked out just because someone else is a bit stronger. Mayweather definitely may outbox PAC, Mosley may knock him out, Marquez may counterpunch him to death, there is a few other guys who may do this or that .... but I believe Martinez is just a right guy for a 50/50 fight no matter at what weight they really fight.
Wrong. Yea, but what if Ruiz also came in under 200lbs, would they still have been fighting for the heavyweight titles? You can fight at a catchweight, but to win a title at 160lbs, one of the fighters would have to be over the 154lb limit. Take the Margo vs Pac fight for instance, it was only for the 154lb title because Margarito weighed in at 150. If he came in at 147 (just like MArtinez would be coming in at 154) they could only fight for the welterweight title.
