this is no disrespect to manny. i belive hes a great fighter and is fighting everyone his MANAGEMENT is putting in front of him. and is doing a good job progressing through the weights and winning worthy fighters. but really come on, floyd? judging been out for a while hasnt tuck its effect, he is too big and imho the best of our generation in the weights he operates in bar non. i dont understand this big old manny pacquiao hype though. i mean he has progressed through the weights, recently beating david diaz, whom for me isnt a top fighter, why not fight juan diaz, guzman, nate cambell or actually beat marquez this time as i believe marquez won one of them fights they had. all of them are the top fightings at there respected weights and to call yourself a pound for pound king you should beat the top fighters in the weights you progress through (argueble for both pbf and pacman). he then goes to beat oscar de la hoya. not only did floyd get accused of beating up a old man, lots of people class it as a non credible win due to the fact he was "past his prime" i believe that fight against floyd was oscars last great fight from a great fighter. bear in mind it was light middleweight, floyd done a hell of a job. but then manny comes along to fight an even older oscar, who also hasnt fought at 147 for 8 or so years. oscar seriously messes up his weight, gets himself dehydrated and gets a beating. and manny is the best thing since sliced bread for doing it? ok.... he then goes onto take ricky hatton. a dangerous move (if your not as clever as freddys matchmaking) it seemed. not since ricky had had alot taken out of him BY floyd, then coming off half excuses of performances then changing hands to floyd snr and beating a "ive lost my drive to fight" paulie malli who looks just as bad in his fight on the hatton undercard. everyone thinks hattons back which he wasnt, he had passed his best by far. and pacman prooved that, probably his most credible win. bare in mind everyone then jumps on the pacman band wagon "he did it in 3, floyd couldnt, he will destroy floyd" bla bla. they dont take into account the boxing styles ect were is floyd nowdays barely beats anyone in 3 as hes a slicker counter fighter were manny is full on and him and hatton were bound to clash early. remember when hatton "destroyed" castillo? simlar wasnt it and look what happend. in my opinion pacmans recent success and acheivements are not only due to him been a good fighter, but due to his manager having expert eyes and matchmaking to absoloute perfection, freddy and bob arum coudlnt have done it any better. but yet floyd gets accused of ducking fights. whats fighting oscar at 147 and not wanting to fight floyd there? ducking i would say. then mayweather gets accused of bullying little fighters. when to be honest hes a small bloke himself and the vast majority of his fights hes been the smaller fighter. tbh we will see what floys got left against marquez and if he comes off this convincing i think mannys reign is coming to an abrupt end, regardless of the fact marquez is smaller bla bla. manny is getting the hype of narrow minded fight fans who are not taking into account everything. the weight avoiding match making freddy roach is doing. imho IF they put manny in with floyd. he is going to lose and its as simple as that. il look forward to saying i told you so
maybe people are getting carried away with Floyd. No disrespect to Floyd but if it wasn't for the size difference this fight wouldn't really be hard to pick and the odds wouldn't be close the way they are now. It would be Pac by a distance.
Pac has proved himself, and As a Mayweather fan I truely believe that Pacquiao is the only one that can beat him. thats why the fight will happen
by the way, i would be an idiot to say pacman didnt have a chance in beating floyd because he does, i just think its highly unlikely in my view. he has speed, power and the awrkward southpaw stance. he certainly has a punches chance, just i think that it wont be too difficult for floyd to demise a plan to neutralise this and beat and smaller man
The thread starter made some good points but I think most of us see Floyd as this unbeatable fighter. I re-watched the Zab Judah fight and that is the last time I saw Floyd take a fight to someone properly because since then he has been hitting and running. I saw holes in Floyd that Zab exploited and to beat Floyd someone like Manny would have to be the sharp shooter in the fight and counter Floyd like Zab was doing for 3 of the 1st 4 rounds. He landed Floyd with some nice left counters that caught Floyd offguard. If Pacquiao applied that type of pressure and kept up his workrate, we might see an uncomfortable Floyd in the ring for the 1st time. I think if Manny can use movement to offset Floyds movement then this fight will be made interesting. I noticed that Floyd was the aggressor from round 5 onwards in the Judah fight. If Mayweather takes the fight like that to Manny, we might see fireworks.
Excellent well thought out post. I agree 100%. People never look at both sides because of their hate for PBF. Manny has had some clever matchmaking also with freddy saying bs about PBF would be a boring fight nah freddy you don't want the fight because you as well as everyone else knows that PBF is a stylistic nightmare for Pac.:deal Pac fights Oscar at 147 but doesn't want to face the smaller younger PBF there.:think That right there tells us everything we need to know.
Manny is a great fighter, but, he has been perfectly matched. There is no doubt about that. As with boxing when someone beats everyone they put in front of him, the media and the fans make it out to be like he is invincible, a "new Tyson", if u wanna get specific. It happens every decade. First there was Tyson, then Roy, and now Pacman. Hatton was never that good, and I knew Pac would beat him up pretty good. Diaz is a mediocre paper champ, who has no defense, and Oscar was shot to pieces for years now. But, don't tell that to the boxing experts and the media, they are already high on crack as it is. Marquez or Floyd could of done the same thing, and they would of been touted #1 p4p right now by the media and boxing. It's just so happens boxing and the media need a story to sell. But, thank God there is people out there like u and me, and many others, who can see thru the tainted windows.
I agree mostly - tho I do think Pac deserves full credit for the Hatton win - but yes, Mayweather is a whole different ball game, he should beat Pac.
