I think it's safe to say that he's fought so many high quality fighters that his resume speaks for itself about what he's able to do in a boxing ring.

In March Pac beat Clottey to underline his position as the top WW imo. In September 2011 Floyd beat Ortiz to take back his place as the top WW imo.

But his ranking is only because Floyd had retired and in his wake Pac was at his best.

There's the debate about whether or not Margo v Cotto began a new lineage (for me it doesnt actually) but this isn't a debate about linearity it's about who I believe was the top man and at the time, after destroying Cotto and dominating Clottey, I think it was Pacman. He seemed to lose something against Margo and never quite looked as ferocious again. Tbh I'm not really happy restoring Floyd as number in after beating Ortiz, he didn't fight again at WW until 2013 against Guerrero, but the problem is Pac lost a disputed decision to Bradley and then go splattered against JMM so if Floyd isn't the number 1 in absence who is? Pac who's losing, Bradley who's winning by the skin of his teeth? Marquez who lost every second to Floyd? What's a brother to do?

Anyways I do think Pac had a purple patch where he was genuinely the best out there and during this time I struggle to find more than 15 WW's I'd rank above him (I don't rank on anything but skillset, h2h and eye test though)

 

In Floyd's semi retirement it did crown a new pemiere WW, I agree with that but Mosley was very inactive after the fight with Margo and Pac's form was too hot for me to ignore.

Floyd beating Mosley could well confirm him back at being number 1, I don't recall the ring placing him number 1 after that fight though.

It's a tricky one and I might go back and change my mind and say Pac from March till May. Or I might argue that Floyd beating Mosley isn't as impressive as Pac beating him clearer. I dunno.

I do know that it has no bearing on my ranking of Pac as 15 in WW history though. I never have Hearns as ever being the best WW in the world but I rank him number 3.

Leonard. Ray Robinson. Hearns. Mayweather jr. De La Hoya. Trinidad. Kid Gavilan. Joe Walcott. Armstrong. Napoles all better than Pac and that's not in any order and there's about 15 more I'd put ahead of Pac too smh

You COULD say Pacquiao is a top 15 ATG (I would personally disagree), but there's no ****ing way he's a top 15 WW. There's no way you could even make a case for it.

 

I've never seen Walcott fight tbh. Agree with all the other names though.

 

You can make a case for anything in a sport where one punch can change a fight.
