The guy held lineal titles between Flyweight and Jr Welterweight.

That has never been done before, and it likely won’t be done again in our lifetimes.

He is a pound for pound all time great, and I am just glad that I got to see it.

People don't underrate Marquez. Everybody knows he was a great fighter. At least everybody with a brain does.

 

Guess I'm in the minority but I think that most boxing people overrate Marquez (above junior lightweight anyway). Was a great fighter years ago and several weight classes ago though.

Are you seriously going to claim that the shot Pac hit Hatton with was more devastating than the shot Marquez almost killed Pac with?

Lets get a few things right here.

Pac as a S /Featherweight entered the ring at 140 - 142.

I can distinctly remember reading a debate on a forum 3 years or more before he met Hatton, one of his fans predicting a Pac KO on the grounds that he was always a Light Welter by fight time even though he was campaigning at Feather / S Feather.

All that happened as he went up in weight was he no longer needed to boil down, but his physique didn't allow him to overwhelm guys other than the weight drained Oscar, the remnants of Hatton after Tszyu had ruined him, ( and Mayweather put the finishing touches to the job,) and a Cotto that had been previously destroyed by Margarito in dubious circumstances.

He couldn't move Clottey, he battered the useless Margarito with everything but the ring post but couldn't stop him. He couldn't work out a way to seek and destroy a 40 year old Mosley. It took him 2 goes to get EVEN with the non punching Bradley, almost got decapitated by a 38 year old Marquez, and was made to look an idiot by a well past his best Mayweather.

And people want to put up there with Armstrong.:rofl:rofl:rofl

The only thing I've said is that Hatton looked like he'd possibly been killed to me, at the time. It was an impressive KO, that's all.

 

I'll say that as a welterweight he wasn't that much, but in a p4p sense he has produced historical results.

A lot of Pacquiao's 8 division titles were worthless trinkets.

He's also fought people at catchweights, and may or may not have used PEDs.

 

Back in 2010, being one of the many caught up in Pacquiao's rise, I only saw the machine gun combinations against Margarito. Watching it again it was apparent just how many shots Pacquiao had to absorb, particularly those viscous body shots that almost dropped him and (supposedly) cracked ribs. The difference in frame was drastic for that one and definitely added plenty of miles to the clock.

 

PAC the Lowlife .

 

Pacman is an ATG fighter, no doubt, but Henry Armstrong is maybe one of a handful of ATG's that you can make a strong case for him being the greatest fighter ever P4P (along with such stalwarts as Ray Robinson, Harry Greb and Sam Langford.)

Manny is somewhere in the top 25-30 for me, whereas Homicidal Hank is in my top 3 ever. He was a guy that was the lineal champion of 3 of the original weight classes and almost won the MW championship of the world.

H2H I think Armstrong would knock him out inside 10 rounds.

 

I think Pacis a top 15 SBW, FW, SFW and WW.

I don't think there's anyone else I'd rank top 15 in 4 divisions.

 

Pacquiao likes pressure fighters though. Armstrong is the greater fighter p4p.

Pacquiao has the style advantage though.

 

That a fair comment. My point is he doesn't deserve to be up there with Homicide Hank.

Here was a guy who as a Lightweight was knocking out genuine Welters for that title, plus who was only ever stopped twice himself. Once in his debut fight, then later by Fritzie Zivic who was one tough mofo, and a lot bigger than Henry.
