The way he told him the corner before knocking Chambers cold was quite right. Manny was doing no good in there by repeating himself and raising his voice. Too many trainers are like this imo and it is just part of the sport's culture. I wonder though, was it to everyone's taste? Should a fighter just sit there and take it? Discuss.
Both Klistchkos ***** about not being worldwide stars and cant land the big fights, but they approach fights like total *****'s. Emanuel Steward is trying to help them land the fights and get the recognition they want. I dont see anything wrong with him prodding Wlad to pick up the pace when hes got a guy to a point where they represnts little offensive threat.
It is what it is. I neither found the thing distasteful nor something great. Trainers put their own reputations and places in boxing history on the line with the fighters they train. They're both involved in the same project and they're going to disagree at times, get disgruntled with each other, etc. Wlad and Manny seem to have a great working relationship in general. But some fighters do need a kick in the ass. I thought Manny's excited urging was blown a little bit out of proportion. He didn't beat Wlad's chest like he did Lennox or anything. I could be wrong, of course, but I don't believe Steward ever works with Vitali? I also don't put an over-cautious brand on Vitali at all, like Wladimir. I don't see them as being that alike beyond big white guys that fight big and white-er-European. That fight big and European.
I think both Steward and TOmmy Brooks worked with both brothers at some point. I just think that Steward understands boxing and what it takes to grab the attention of the worldwide public. I was more referring to Wlad and really he is big and fast and sometimes waits for a guy to be completely defenseless before he lowers the boom and thats not what boxing fans want to see.
Steward does this. You should see how hard he used to hit Lewis when he was in the corner and not eing as agressive as Manny wants.
No, it's certainly not, in most cases, me included. But I still never blame Wlad for that style. He knows his whiskers are unreliable and he gets the job done with that in mind. It's exactly what I would do under the same circumstances, I'd think. But, I never heard him complain about not getting fans or whatever. It seems like the large amounts of fans he has in Germany don't mind this approach and turn up. Does Wlad mind not having more American fans? I don't know, I've never heard him address it, really. If he's complained about it, that's a different story and he knows he's not giving them what they want.
Yeah, I've never heard that either. I'd like to know what they've said. Maybe I need to speak three more languages to get it all.
Though I wouldn't call them *****'s I think guys like Kevin Johnson, Sultan, and even Chambers are the ones that deserve the blunt of the criticism; forcing the Champion to chase them down and take all the risks while they cover up and run for their lives after their initial gameplan doesn't work is no way for an aspiring contender to approach a fight.
Vitali sells out a 50k people arena fighting a nobody (Sonoswski), while Cotto has trouble drawing 10k when fighting a top ranked opponent in Foreman. So, I highly doubt Klitschko's worried about star status or drawing crowds.
