Floyd clearly won the fight. You could give Manny four rounds but that is being generous. No schooling but Floyd won clearly doing just enough to win rounds. I am more disappointed with PAC. He could have been more aggressive and took much more risks. There is little chance of the fight ending with a KO. The only way he wins is with volume and activity. He failed to deliver. He let Floyd control the pace from the outside with Floyd`s superior reach. I think the old wildcat PAC would have had a better chance.

That Marquez knock out has made Manny scared to take risks again. Floyd was right, when you lose, its always in your mind. Very gutted and dissapointed by Manny's performance today.

Sure you can say all you want about Mayweather's defensive boring style but that is how he fights. The onus was on Manny to counter him and he failed miserably. He should have been man enough to rush Mayweather on the inside even if Mayweather would have countered him with the right hand, that was the only he could have given himself the best chance.

His whole strategy of fighting on the outside, not rushing in was so screwed up. This is a disaster of epic proportions.

I agree, he was caught up in the moment, whereas we obviously aren't. But that's where Freddie should have jumped in.

But again, Floyd doesn't always throw counters when he's against the ropes. He's a safety first fighter. And those shots don't have to be hurtful or all on target for the judges. A judge will score on volume and aggression.

Well when you have no jab, can't fight on then inside and can't stop a right hand it limits your options

The thing about Pac being "afraid" (I think unwilling to risk is more accurate) to press and lead because of worries about counters is probably accurate in explaining Manny's general lack of aggression or not fighting with total abandon -- but if you're getting picked apart and pot-shotted anyway, is it not better to take those shots while working your way closer in hopes that you can land something in return and win the exchange?

You don't need to have all that. You just have to be the old PAC.

He only had more success in the center of the ring, because he hardly pressed him on the ropes. So statistically speaking, yes. But really, he hardly had any success in the center of the ring. There were literally only a handful of moments, from the entire fight. No WW in the world is going to outbox Floyd in the center of the ring. That's not the way to beat him. Floyd pretty much neutralised him for 90% of the fight when he they were in the center of the ring. But we know that there's lots of judges out there, that would like what they saw from Manny in the third round. And if there'd been more rounds where Floyd covered up in a high guard while Manny unloaded, I'm certain that Manny would have been awarded more rounds.

Freddie could have told him to press more on the ropes. It must have been clear to him after the 7th round, that he needed a knockout to win. My philosophy is: when you're already losing, you've got nothing to lose. And I just don't believe that a guy like Freddie would have thought that Manny was winning at any point during the fight. Also, applying constant pressure while Floyd is covering up, isn't really going hung ho. Finally, how could they stick with their game plan? It clearly wasn't working, and unless Manny had've got lucky with a huge winging shot, nothing was ever going to change. I like Freddie a lot, and I respect him. But he was awful tonight.

Pacquiao could have had some success doing what you say but I don't know how possible it would have been. A few times Floyd spun off the ropes or held in that situation.

Also maybe Pacquiao (and maybe Roach agreed) was trying not to punch himself out hitting Floyd's gloves/arms. They don't know if the judges will give Pacquiao rounds just for throwing shots which are blocked so they try to get Floyd to not cover up so Pacquiao can try to land actual scoring shots.

Another possibility is maybe Pacquiao mentally gave up a bit after being out boxed or maybe Floyd kept him from unloading by feinting and posturing to counter.

(I didn't hear what advice Freddie was giving him so I don't know if Manny was following his instructions or not)

    Exactly!

    1. Why did he stop in the third round and back away?

    2. Why didn't he press him like that in the other rounds, when he had the same opportunity?

Floyd was covering up. And I believe he would have continued to have done so, which would have given Manny the same opportunities to have impressed the judges.
