    Merida, Yucatan - Mexico

Manuel 'Pulgarcito' Ramos scored an 'impressive' TKO 3 over Arizona
    Heavyweight - Johnny 'Cochise' Featherman.

The 6' 4" Ramos, whipped hard left hooks and right hands on the
out-gunned Johnny, who had no answer for the Mexican Heavyweight.

Manuel pounded the tough 'Cochise' all over the ring, finally dropping him into
the ring ropes and upon the ring apon. Johnny got back in the ring, but
was met with barrage forcing the Referee to stop the bout.

Manuel Ramos improves to 17-6-2 (15 KO's), and moves up to the #6 Heavyweight.

Johnny 'Cochise' Featherman who predicted an 'upset victory' falls to 27-8-1.

Manuel has challenged Arizona Heavyweight, veteran Zora Folley to get in the
ring with him. Local Promoters have offered Folley $40,000 to fight Ramos,
    but Zora has not responded.

    October 1967,,

Former WBA Heavyweight Champion - Ernie Terrell has signed to fight Mexican
Heavyweight Champion - Manuel 'Pulgarcito' Ramos on October 14, 1967 in
    Mexico City.

Terrell, the #8 WBA Heavyweight at 39-6-0, has signed for a fight purse of $35,000
plus expenses. Ernie hopes to stop his '2-bout' losing streak.

Terrell stated, 'If I win, which I will, than I'll have a go at Joe Frazier. If I lose, I'll
retire. If I can't beat Manuel Ramos, than I have no business fighting.'

Frazier broke him. Ramos hit Frazier with his best shot and it did not discourage Frazier one bit.

Here is Ramos being humiliated by Bonavena years later:

    Yes,

But on Saturday - October 14, 1967,,,,,,,,Manuel 'Pulgarcito' Ramos, and in front
of 90,000 + Mexican fans at the Estadio Azteca Stadium in Mexico City,

For that moment in time (October 14, 1967) 'Pulgarcito' Ramos was the 'Hombre de Mexico'.

    The Fight

Manuel Ramos, staggered, then dropped 'Big Ernie' Terrell, then withstood the former WBA Heavyweight
Champion's repeated fouls (head-butts, hitting behind the head, hitting in the clinches
and hitting low), enroute to a Unanimous 10-Round Decision.

Ramos staggered Terrell in the '1st-Round' with a right cross to the chin, nearly
stopping the 'ambling alp'. In Round 2, Ramos sliced Terrell's forehead with a right-left
    flush on the head.

Terrell reverted to 'bull-like' rushes in Round 3 and 4, and used 'rough-house' tactics,
    keeping Ramos backed up.

But in Round 5, Ramos 'staggered' Terrell with a right cross, and then eventually floored
him with a left-hook and right hand. Ramos did struggle with Terrell's rushes from
the 6th Round on, but the former Champion was warned numerous times and penalized
'points' by Referee - Cesar Arroyo.

In the late rounds, Ramos found success with repeated right-crosses, and heavy
body punches. Terrell was limited to long left jabs, and an occassional right
    hand to the body.

The Assoiciated Press scored the bout 6-4-0 in Rounds for Manuel Ramos.

The United Press International scored the bout 7-3-0 for Ernie Terrell, but did
not take into account the penalized point deductions.

Referee, Cesar Arroyo penalized Ernie Terrell '5-Points' for his repeated fouling.

For that moment in time (October 14, 1967), 'Pulgarcito' was the 'Hombre de Mexico'

The victory for Manuel Ramos, improved his record to 18-5-4 and moved him into the
    Top 5 Heavyweight ranks.

    kikibalt,,,,,,,

Manuel was only good for about 2 1/4 years.

    March 1966 thru June 1968, where he went 15-0-0 (12 KO's).

He never recovered from the 'borscht' up at Grossingers.

'Smokin' Joe Frazier (211 lbs.) shows Manuel 'Pulgarcito' Ramos (226 lbs.) what its like to be
    on the 'big stage'.

Manuel, who held his own for the first-half of the 1st-Round, including rocking the Champion
with a right hand at the 0:46 Mark, and had Frazier 'stunned for 15-seconds', before the
    Champion re-grouped.

Then 'rampaging' Frazier, tore into Ramos with a vicious two-fisted, including hammering
'Pulgarcito' with rib-crunching body punches, and then jaw-smashing hooks. At the
2:33 Mark, Frazier landed a 'picture perfect left hook, which hurt Ramos badly. Manuel
did try to battle back, but was over-matched by the more powerful Champion.
