I have had many conversations with boxing judges over the years, and have been astounded at how little some of them know about things to look for in a fight. Simple terms like "sitting down on punches," "squaring up," "cutting off the ring;" this is some very simple boxing language that some of them were oblivious to. Not all, but quite a few boxing judges have low boxing IQ's. Many off them have no in ring experience, or even in gym experience. I really believe that if Judges were tested on their boxing knowledge, many of them would fail. This is a sad reality in our sport. I think incompetence is a bigger factor to bad decisions, than corruption, and that is disconcerting.

Perhaps it is because they are not swayed by the talking heads on tv.Perhaps their view of the fight is obscurred by the angle on which they sit and they don't have the advantage of tv replays or perhaps it is due to the fact that they have seen more fights "live" that both of the above posters have combined so they have more experience in their little finger than both of you in your entire body.
    Just saying.

Judges should be required to have 10 amateur fights before judging.

Good article on grantland in relation to judging and it's difficulties

These guys have one angle and no replay

It's a hard job demands extreme focus

    Sometimes they make mistakes

Sometimes they do. I don't actually blame the judges. I blame the commissioners who appoint them.

I will never forget Teddy Atlas years ago screaming at 3 incompetent Michigan Judges on Friday Night Fights who didn't understand the difference in a Majority Draw or a Majority Decision in a fight that they had scored it was hilarious :lol::lol::lol:

Are you a judge?? Because you sure are making excuses for them. I'm not saying that there aren't good judges out there that know the sport. There are. I'm speaking to the ones that aren't.

I remember that. Michigan is one of the worst. Augustus-Burton scores were arguably the worst ever.

Why is it the commissioners fault?

How should so called bad decisions be handled?

    What judges are consistently bad?
