I think the list of the original post will be a clean sweep from the favorites (obviously, that means one upset at least will probably happen). But I think this list holds the most possibility for upsets, or certainly the most intriguing scenarios should the upsets unfold. Wladimir handles Pulev and makes it look every bit as easy as his previous 10 defenses, in my opinion. Many are giving Pulev too much credit in both what he has done and what they think he will do to Wladimir. Rabchenko vs. Mundine interests me greatly, relatively speaking (despite hating Mundine, he usually does interest me once a year). I think Rabchenko beats Mundine, probably easily, but this will be a "sink or swim" test of sorts for him.
Off the secondary (non-televised) list, I think our likeliest upsets, roughly in order, are: Clay over Salka, Belaev over Funeka, and Masternak over Mormeck. Otherwise all the faves should coast. Ouali is old and shot but too big and hits too hard for Gato Figueroa, who's just as old and shot. Tommy Gun should pitch a shutout over the very limited Grachev, who does have granite mitts but Oosthuizen, while he does give up his advantages of dimension and eat stupid punches now and then, is pretty damn hard to hurt. Sammy Vasquez should comfortably beat Mosquera. Gamboa and Mijares are both coming off tough losses but they're both in pretty light.
Wow Aydin and Ouali both mentioned on the same thread, for anyone who hasn't seen it. find their match against each other, it was pretty damn good, in spite of the countless low blows.
I agree that his best chance is on the outside, but even there I give him very little realistic chance.
another fight not mentioned is Donnie Nietes, WBO LF Champ (33-1(19KO)) vs. Carlos Velarde (26-3(14KO)) Nietes is attempting to make history to surpass fellow Filipino Legend "Flash" Elorde's record for reigning as a champion for 7 years & 3 months. Nietes has held a title since winning the WBO Min. belt way back 09/2007
:nod Yep, I realized belatedly after compiling the Rummy's Challenge list for this week that I'd overlooked Nietes vs. Velarde - which is going to be televised on ABS-CBN in the Philippines. Do you think Chapito stands a good chance of upsetting Aha? His best W's posted to date are over Argumedo and Novoa, whereas Nietes has been consistently taking on better guys - without losing - for seven years.
Words cannot express my delight. ...this sprightly little fella, however: :woot (delight...slash deep, bitter envy that you beat me to first usage on the forum)
Well, as long as Ahas did not put any pressure thinking that he'll beat that record, he'll surely win that fight. And as long as its a Mexican opponent, upset is just around the corner.
I think Pulev's jab will connect a few times in the fight. He may even hurt Wlad, I just don't see him capitalizing when/if it happens. Wlad Wide UD for me.
In the upcoming weeks during the days of turkey the Crawford-Beltran doubleheader smells of upsets to me. Maybe its my sinus, Idk. Beltran can make it tough for Crawford too bad he doesn't have more power in his punches. With Puerto Rico having a drought in champions I know Velez will be trying to greatly impress his boss Miguel Cotto. I think Crawford and Gradovich should both win, but won't be surprised if Velez or Beltran end up with their hands raised after the fight, tho a robbery won't be outta the question either. Not the first time it's happened to Beltran either. Just sayin.
