I just read on El Nuevo Dia( newspaper from Puerto Rico) that Emanuel Stewart has been hired to train Miguel Cotto for his fight againts Yuri Foreman. They will make the announcement next week. This according to Murray Wilson who is Foreman's manager. Apparently Stewart had a verbal agreement with team Foreman about helping Foreman out for a couple of weeks for his fight againts Cotto but backed down and now will be with Cotto. Too late for Cotto IMHO. He should have done this a long time ago. Now his career is basically over as his fight with Foreman will probably be his last one as an active fighter. Cotto said that he will retire at the end of 2010. Perhaps he has time to make another fight after the Foreman one but still this move came too late IMHO.
I think this is great news for Miguel Cotto, and with what has come before us with Duran winning a title at 38, Foreman winning one at 45, I'm not so quick to dismiss Miguel's rejuvenation chances. Steward can only really benefit him at this point.
guys stop spelling his name Stewart. I know noone gives a **** about spelling on this site but there's more people writing Stewart than Steward
It will be interesting to see how much can Cotto improve with a real trainer, just hope it's not too late for him.
Cotto should retire after Foreman if you ask me but I hope he goes out delivering a BANG! WAR COTTO!!!!!
I think its too late personally with Cotto probably being done as top fighter and with him entering a new weight class he doesn't belong in. I hope I'm wrong here but I'm afraid I'm not.
It's a step in the right direction but it may be too little too late. I don't know how Cotto and Steward will gel.
