What Should Cotto Do To Prepare For His Next Go Around With Margo? Can He Possibly Do Anything In Training Camp To Win?

There are about a million threads on this topic already; try running a search.

My short answer: guard the body better, work on staying in the middle of the ring, and be a lot quicker into entering clinches.

It's funny how people forget the first half of the fight which was a boxing clinic put on by Cotto. I expect Margarito to win the rematch anyway, but it's perfectly reasonable to think Cotto could make adjustments to not get knocked out this time.

Cotto will struggle to ever beat Margarito and Williams because of the sheer size difference. Not just height, but Cotto being a former 140 pounder and Williams are more naturally suited to middleweight with their near 6" and over 6" statures.

If Cotto manages to beat Margarito it would be an amazing win.

If Cotto wins by UD, you guys think there will be a 3rd fight?
I hope after that fight, the winner fights Williams, if he's able to still make 147 that is.

Nah Cotto is in a bad position here. He's stepping up with guys that tower him and though they might not be necessarily better boxers, the physical advantages are too great. That and the chin that Margo has will win him a second encounter.

watched the fight again last night.

next time he needs to start slower.

cos margo always has a measured start.

try and pinch rds on his skills early on.

save more for later when margo ups it.

    easier said than done though.

i think cotto could win a rematch.

he'd know what to fully expect next time.

i think he can improve and margo can't. :yep

    Ok, here it goes:

First of all he has to work his STAMINA. After round 7 of their first fight he seemed like he was anxious for the final bell, he wanted to get out of there, seemed tired and in survival mode.

Second, he HAS to try and work the BODY. It's pretty obvious that he can't hurt Margo with head shots, and body shots mean POINTS as much as the head ones, so why not try it?

Third, he has to stay OFF THE ROPES. For the first 6 rounds he looked like he could box his way out, but hanging on the ropes for so long means that Margo is gonna catch you eventually. As a poster had suggested in an older thread, Cotto should have a virtual square in his mind (in the center of the ring) and NEVER leave it. This I think is the most important thing he has to do, along with his stamina.

Always be aware of Margo's LEFT HAND, especially the uppercut. That was the shot that pretty much ruined it for Cotto in their first match, so he should be wiser in a rematch.

In addition, I wouldn't mind if he got a new trainer.
