Only doing you a favour, bro. It's very hard to always stay objective. You're smart enough for it to be worth it for you to try to stay objective. Hatred blinds... it's bad enough that we sometimes overrate the fighters we love...

By refusing to fight the best MW's, how is that not holding hte division hostage?

I guess if Chavez beats Lee (not via robbery), then he'll prove he is a top MW deserving of Sergio trying to call out. . .

Why did he fight guys like Barker, Macklin, when he could have fought guys like Golovkin, and Pirog?

OR, if he's so "natural" at 154 like he claims, then why: 1.) Did he not opt to keep the 154 WBC belt after winning 160 pound, and he had two weeks to make a decision which one to hold on to?, 2.) Why did he not fight DZINZ, the WBO champ @ 154, AT 154 to UNIFY? (although I guess Dzinz was a legit enough opponent, but at the wrong weight), and 3.) Why did he not go to 154 to chase more compelling fights?

Sorry, Sergio ain't above criticism. . Him using the "risk/reward" calculator, being a hypocrite of accusing Pac of ducking him, when he has shot down fighting guys at 164 catchweight, and just being a hypocrite in general, while not making the best fights.

Lol I guess I ask way too much of boxers, but I am just such a huge fan of boxing, I HATE WHEN 10 to 1 underdog matchups like Barker, and Macklin are made.

And how did that work out for him in getting Fight$ ?

Chavez keeps avoiding the fight with him and he has Sergio's belt.

It's not like he can be patient. He is 37 years old.

Floyd wasn't as loud at one point in this career either. And then he got mouthy and and look where he is today?

    Ali chased down Liston.

    Many fighters do this.

Golovkin hasn't been able to fight in the US or anywhere until this year. It's not Martinez' fault he wasted years of his career with Universum. This doesn't even get into the weak professional resume Golovkin has nor the fact that his main interest still appears to be waiting around for Sturm.

Similarly, please explain to me what makes Pirog so much better than Barker or Macklin. His paper belt that was stripped from Martinez for no reason whatsoever?

Maybe because he'd spent the entirety of 2009 unable to get fights at that weight and was waiting to see if Pavlik would exercise his rematch clause?
Because he only had middleweight belts at that point and it thus wouldn't be a unification fight.

Which more compelling fights? Neither Angulo nor Kirkland nor Cotto have wanted him at any point. Alvarez is no more likely to fight him than Chavez. Who's left as a compelling fight at that weight class?

He's repeatedly said he'd fight Froch or Ward at 164.

Ok, fair enough reason for him keeping the 160 belt, I suppose. . . But I thought HBO told him they wanted the Dzinz fight before he made the decision to keep 160 belt, and not his 154 belt. . .

We don't know if they would have interest to fight him, because he had never shown any interest (in fact, recently, he said Kirkland would have to come up to 160 to fight him, even though he supposedly feels "most comfortable" @ 154). . And you got Lara, Trout, Bundradge (VERY underrated), and Martirosyan. . . But whatever, if he was gonna stay at 160 for Golovkin, and Pirog, it'd have been cool. . But sorry, a "pound for pound people's champ" doesn't fight guys like Barker, adn macklin back to back :nono

Really? I could have sworn he immediately, and resoundingly shot down the idea of fighting 168 pounders, even at catchweight. . . Maybe he said something about Froch, but I know he denied Bute, and Ward. . But he certainly didn't seem interested enough in pursuing the idea of Froch fight.

No his 154 belt was long gone by the time of the Williams rematch; that's how they were able to put it on the line for that great Pacquiao-Margarito fight. It was the WBC 160 belt he lost right after the Dzinziruk fight.

Wolfe herself said she didn't think Kirkland was ready for a slick southpaw, Angulo priced himself out, and Martinez was whining for the Cotto fight at 154 or at 155 with his belts on the line even longer than he has been on about Chavez.
Rather loose definition of "more compelling" you're using here, especially with Vanes.
The funny thing is that both Barker and Macklin would be the best wins on both Golovkin and Pirog's resumes.

He said he'd fight Ward at 164 when he was bitching about the WBC last December and he said he'd fight Froch at that weight on this site's radio show. Froch also hasn't exactly been interested in pursuing that idea either and for good reason since he had bigger money fights possible at his own weight vs. Kessler and Bute.

The main thing that caught my eye was the Chavez Jr. situation. He was dead on about that. Chavez Jr. is a fraud. Nothing special about him at all as far as boxing skills. His comments towards Pacquiao are his opinions (even though Cotto and DLH was boiled down).

The more desperate Martinez has become, the more credibility he's lost over the past year or so. These were his comments after the Pac-Marg fight:

    Martinez's opinion about Pacquiao:

“Personally I think he (Pacquiao) is in his best moment. I don’t see an end to Manny Pacquiao yet. As a matter of fact I believe he could beat Floyd Mayweather because he is a better boxer and is as fast or faster then Floyd. It’s going to be very difficult to see another fighter with the combination of quickness, precision and power that Manny Pacquiao fights with. I believe he is at his peak right now. I don’t know for how much longer he will fight at this level, but I see very few people that can beat him or give him a competitive fight.”

    Martinez's Opinion about Pacquiao/Mayweather:

“I hope so, because it’s a fight that would be beneficial to boxing. It’s a fight the public wants to see and it’s a fight that Mayweather actually needs, no? If Mayweather wants to be remembered as the best ten-fifteen years from now he will need to fight Manny Pacquiao who is as good or better than him. I would say that right now Pacquiao is better than him due to his greater activity inside the ring. I think the fight will be made for the benefit of them both and the boxing world as a whole.”

    Martinez's opinion about Pacquiao/Margarito:

“The fight was a lot more one sided then I imagined it would be,” Martinez would tell BoxeoMundial shortly after the Pacquiao-Margarito bout had ended. “I imagined that Pacquiao could connect at a proportion of 4 to 1, but what I could not imagine was the amount of damage he would inflict. I was feeling sorry for Margarito by the end of the fight. I was very sad that they allowed Margarito to continue even after he was not in condition to do so and Manny once again showed how great he is. I think Manny Pacquiao punished Margarito more then all of his previous opponents. It’s incredible to see how Pacquiao has continued to climb as a boxer; it’s amazing to see the power that he has. He has reached the highest level and he deserves to be there because he has done an incredible job.”

Martinez's opinion about a Fight between him and Pacquiao:

"I believe that due to his physical make up he has reached his limit. I think to go up even more would be difficult for him. Maybe he could challenge Paul Williams, because he (Williams) could go down to the welter, but me personally I don’t think I could ever fight him because I could never go down below 154 and he can’t go up above the 140s. Even though in boxing you never know.”

But since Pacquiao won't give him the payday he wants (for the very reason that he himself respected), it all changes to "Pacquiao ain't ****, he a fraud, wah wah wha". :verysad

Manny Pac is so under appreciated amongst other fighters it's unreal.

That's probably part of his success. Fighters continue to take him lightly.

Cotto, Clottey, De LaHoya, Hatton, Mosley were all way over confident.

i actually think Chavez is ok. He's beaten some decent fighters now. He's definetly not the worst champion. Solid chin, Very strong, good jab, very good body work, fights at a high tempo. He reminds me a bit of a young margarito.

It's come up here before, but pretty much every interview I've seen him from before that article and since he's said he thinks Mayweather is better. Here's an interview from the very same period where he says he thinks Mayweather is much better:
