sergio is more skilled , but vargas as a beast in his prime , at 160 sergio at 154 it could be very interesting , toss up at 154

Vargas at his peak definitely was a beast and was very good in every dept, but he was a level below Oscar and Tito. He still had enough to give them a run for their money though and gave them hell. Some say he was rushed in abit too fast and I agree. Sergio is a fast, slick, speedy southpaw with great stamina and he's close to being great in just about every dept. In fact, he's so good that he even fights with his hands down which is a big no-no in boxing, but because of his speed and footwork not since RJ has a fighter been able to get away with something like that.

Vargas fought another southpaw in Winky, but Winky is not a true lefty and had no power in his left; Sergio definitely does and he has power in both hands. Many thought Winky, not Fernando, should of been the winner when they fought that night. Vargas wasn't great, but he was very good skillwise and all around and if a fighter didn't have an answer within the first 4-5 rounds, Vargas usually did some of the best steamrolling in the business with hard, clean combinations. He was supposed to be the next goldenboy. To be honest I think Vargas in his prime would put up more of a fight than Pavlik or Williams did, when Vargas fought "ferociously" but Martinez too much speed, power, and determination for Vargas. Martinez UD12 Vargas

It's tough to call. Sergio was giving Margarito a good fight at 147, even rocked Margo couple of times with his left, before getting stopped. Does Vargas have a better chin than Margo, I don't think so. I mean he's got a decent chin but not a granite Margo chin. Vargas does have decent speed and gots some skills, but Martinez is just awkward and difficult to adjust to.

This is a hard fight to call, I would probly say Martinez by a split in a fight where both fighter suffer knock downs.
