....if his life wasn't tragically taken in that plane crash. I believe his only defeat was due to a dodgy shoulder leading to retirement.

If he could have got to USA in his prime he would have been one of the very best.

The best people to speak to on the subject are contemporaries of Cerdan who generally give you a proper assessment of the man.

LaMotta beat him fair and square but everyone I have ever asked from that era as to who would be their favourite in a rematch always say Cerdan.

Ezzard Charles considered him to be the best p4p fighter in the world.

I could be wrong, but I think Cerdan was already at his peak when he fought Zale, or maybe just a bit otherside of peak. I don't know if he could have gotten any better than he already was at that point.

Yes, your right. He'd already had over 100 fight and he was 32. Maybe the thread should be, How good was Cerdan?

Credan was a beast of a middle weight. He had top skills on offense and defense, good speed, an iron chin, a great style to press the action, and a lethal hook.

Its too bad he never got a chance to re-match Lamotta. An injury free Cerdan IMO, beats LAmotta, and has the style to beat Robinson too.

I just remember him being a tough SOB and yet never really given his due.

Pity we didnt get Cerdan-Robinson, I'd pick Robbi but it would have been a hell of a tough fight for him

    no way!

even befopre the injury, lamotta was beating the **** out of cerdan and had floored him in the first with a left hook. cerdan got injured due to lamottas superior strength manhandling him in the clinches. he was tailor made for lamotta.

robinson too fast for cerdan. cerdan did not have an iron chin. raddick put him down 3 times and nearly out.

Cerdan's name brings a rush of memories, watching him train at a gym in the Bronx in the early '50s. Very outgoing. Big grin (flashing gold tooth) and slap on the back for everyone. Instantly likeable.

We'd just heard about his reputation. Impressive-as-hell sparring. Trigger-quick reflexes.

Used to work with Italo Scortichini, a rugged, compact middleweight contender.

Cerdan wasn't especially slick, but he avoided punches by millimeters effortlessly and fired back without re-grouping.

Cerdan certainly looked very good against Zale his left hook was lethal, would have been great to see him against Ray. I don't believe Marcel was very big at middleweight I've heard his best work was done at welterweight in Europe maybe that’s why LaMotta was able to bully him around.
