I like Lloyd Marshall to swarm all over Marcel for the stoppage. I believe Marcel has trouble with skilled pressure fighters who can punch. People forget even before Marcel injured his shoulder..lamotta floored cerdan and was beating the **** out of him. As great as lamotta was, Marshall was a bit better. One of the hardest middleweights in history to beat in a h2h sense because of his power combined with his skilled swarming. Just think...Lloyd Marshall defeated Charlie Burley, Holman Williams, Jake Lamotta, and Ezzard Charles. UNREAL. Who did Cerdan ever beat that stacks up to that?
Lloyd Marshall is a very heavy favourite. He found it easy against LaMotta according to his own testimony.
Which is shocking to me....Because Lamotta is a fighter I rate EXTREMELY highly all time. Watching film of this guy in his prime, he is one of the greatest middleweights of all time. He had freakish unmatched strength, undentable beard, and energizer bunny like stamina combined with SLICK defense. What a difficult style to beat imo. He also fought and defeated outstanding opposition. Lamotta said in Aug 2000 RING Magazine interview "Joey Maxim and I were the only white guys willing to take on the black murders row. I wish I would be given more credit for that. I took on guys no one else wanted to face." Think about this for a second..weight advantage or no...Lamotta beat the greatest fighter of all time in his prime who happened to be around 90-0 at the time. So saying that...The fact Marshall dominated Lamotta speaks volumes on how great marshall really is.
What I think it is Q, is that Lloyd is very mobile and in an unorthodoxed way, very strange movement and hand positioning. Not a lot of clues for Jake to use to cut him off. Also, it was ten rounds. Jake closed very strong and over 15 it would probably have been close at the very least.
Marshall really is the defintion of a 'Trickster' Anyone seen that video when he springs of the ropes? And I do think his chin is underrated.
I think a 15 round fight against LaMotta could have been more troubling for Marshall. He tended to run out of gas. However I'd expect him to possibly finish things earlier against Cerdan. Marshall dealt with light heavyweights, Cerdan used to be a welter. Cerdan also had his troubles with aging and injured Holman Williams. Cerdan was the definition of what could be called "textbook" in modern boxing, especially in Europe, while Lloyd Marshall can only be described as unorthodox.
Not close enough for it to be seen in any way as controversial. LaMotta is supposed to have closed out the show, but Marshall seems to indicate that he was coasting, that he didn't find the fight tough. Between 43 and 46 only Marshall,Zivic and Robinson beat prime Jake, only Robinson and LaMotta got the better of him overall and only Marshall claimed to find him easy prey. Worth thinking on.
Not controversial, but no blow-out. Boxrec said Jake fans thought he deserved the nod for closing it out well. Marshall's own testimony is interest but could be tinted. I don't exactly understand your last sentence there. Are you saying only Marshall found him easy opposition? Says a lot about styles I guess. These days were much different. A round robin between them all. I believe Jake beat some Holman and some other guys that beat Marshall. So I think it's more of a style thing.
If Lloyd doesn't clown around early on, I think he can win a decision. Otherwise Marcel will systematically eat his lunch.
Jake beat Williams but Williams was past his best and injured as GreatA says. In addition that WAS a controversial decision with section of the crowd booin the decision. Rosenfeld was at that fight and was not convinced. But yeah, it's most definitely a style issue.
