I like Cerdan at middleweight. I am not certain if Carpentier's size would make him the pick later, but Cerdan looks like much the better fighter to me.
i'm much more of a cerdan fan....only watched the zale fight again yesterday....think cerdan gets overlooked a lot when people talk of great middleweights....him and steele as for carpentier, at this weight, it would be interesting....i dunno how to judge carpentier really.
Cerdan. IMO Cerdan is very under rated. Watch his film and you will see a power house type, with good skills on offense and defense. 111-4. 2 losses were vis DQ, 1 ( LaMotta ) via injury. The other was avenged. Wins over Tony Zale, Hollman Williams, George Abrams, Di@k Turpin, and Harold Green proves he could be class fighters.
M, I have to comment on Harold Green, a neighbor of mine who I saw the afternoon after he was ko'd by Marcel Cerdan in 1947. He told my dad and a few other guys that, "as soon as I got in a clinch with him, I saw he was too strong for me", and Harold Green was kod in the 2nd round. I saw Cerdan beat the vastly underrated Georgie Abrams at MSG in a close fight. As to who would win between Carpentier and Cerdan I truly don't know but Carpentier had a tremendous fast and powerful right hand, and morphed into a lightheavyweight...
