Ha ha ha ha! The fight WAS early 71. So your agreeing his prime was FOTC or are you saying it stopped sometime in late Feb 71. 75 WAS stopped for frazier being blind - how do you think his eye got that way? Mr feather-fists wasnt too feather-fisted that night. He won the fight inside the distance whatever way you call it. Did joe ever stop Ali? You say Ali had a better chin in 71? How so? Please tell me how a guy makes his chin better? 74 fight. You say one thing i say another. Bottom line Ali wins, and more convincingly than joe did in FOTC.
I know you:yep you being a (last year) 5th former one year up on me in school thought it gave you the right to rob us of all our dinner money every week did'nt it. I could'nt wait for you ****ers to leave so i could get my share of the weekly proceeds gleamed from the weak & vulnerable Just like you stevie, i recall that morning going into the school playground & it was all the yap about ali, no footie, just that we'd really only ever heard of CLAY/ALI & listining to the teachers & my old man & his mates tuning into the Listen fights. None of us could get our heads around the fact that he'd been beaten & by someone who according to the UK scribes at the time was not worthy of holding the crown, usual harry carpenter & co brigade when yer look back on it. I remember asking my form teacher, "what do you think of Ali losing sir" He replied CLAY got what he deserved & god will always punish those who deny him, ****in hell, but i did go too a catholic school & thats the sort of ****in nut sadists we had teaching us. I remember us all saying to each other "Who the ****s this Joe frazier? But he started to get a bit more popular when we heard he had the handle "Smokin Joe" so that every ****er who fancied himself started using it
I was three months short of my eighteenth birthday. A big Ali fan, I went to bed that night (no up to the minute coverage) thinking...one of these guys is gonna have a loss on their record tomorrow...
Based on what ? Your personal wish ?..... yeah ok You only have to look at how well the less mobile, slower footed & lesser stamina Ali did in 71 to see that a 67 version would beat Frazier.... for the record - he`d beat prime Tyson too.
You do know that Ali-Frazier I took place early 71, right ? :huh Oh let me guess, Joe`s prime stopped in jan or feb 71 because that better suits your agenda
I agree, the hard fights had not took there full toll by 74 + he had 3 yrs to get rid of that 3 n half yr ring rust that played a HUGE role in Joe`s victory in 71. Ali of 74 was as good as any version of Ali post lay-off IMO.
Ali was past his peak, but he was still in his prime. I consider a man to be past his prime when he's unable to land a decent right hand. Ali in '71 had destroyed Quarry (who was on a very good run) in a mere three rounds without as much as being touched, and was the first and only one to stop Bonavena - who made everyone look bad. Ali then showed more guts, more ability and more heart than he ever had to when he fought Frazier in '71. He went 15 rounds against a grueling war machine that had him out on his feet in the 11th, yet he came back to win the 12th. An old fighter does not do that. A great one does.
i meant 70* he was blind in one eye due to an accident at work years before if you knew your stuff. He did have a better chin he was more durable in his later career could take a punch better everybody knows that. Bottom line joe frazier was relentless and would have always won prime for prime.
Gr8 fight overall . But Frazier was 1 clear winner . Kind of makes Ali seem , less invincible . Less perfect . Gr8 swarmers like Tyson , Marciano , Dempsey , wud do wat Frazier did , but worse . I imagine , those fighters wud absolutely knockout Ali .
Same here Addie. "Physical Prime" is the potential to be physically 100% if you train 100%, i believe long layoffs are clearly permanently damaging the body & take away "Primes" regardless of the fighters' age. Examples are Ali, Tyson & Dempsey who all lost their Physical Primes through long layoffs.
