He got left off by the "selection committee" and is now in the NIT.

    Group A
    1 Sugar Ray Robinson
    16 Charley Burley
    8 Gene Fullmer
    9 Fred Apostoli

Sugar Ray Robinson vs. 16 Charley Burley. The best version of each at 160 would have been a great fight. I'm not sure who would win. I'd give a slight edge to Robinson as the higher seed.
In the other bout Fullmer beats Apostoli.

    Robinson beats Fullmer
Group A winner: 1 Sugar Ray Robinson

    Group B
    5 Marvin Hagler
    12 Roy Jones Jr
    4 Harry Greb
    13 James Toney

In two upsets both Jones and Toney win in highly compitive bouts. Both not without conterversty.

While It's clear that Jones is better at 168 and 175. I fell that Toney has the edge at 160 winning a close and contervisual decision.
Group B winner: 13 James Toney

Robinson was a better welterweight than middleweight. Not that he wasn't an outstanding middleweight. Toney on the other hand may have been at his best at 160. While Robinson has outstanding defense. Toney's is better and that makes the diffrance.
Group A vs. Group B winner: 13 James Toney

I think Monzon will win by late round stoppage.

2 Carlos Monzon vs. 13 James Toney
Monzon uses his jab to keep Toney off balance. Toney has his molmets, but Monzon wins a decision.
