How is it known that there were greater numbers of heavyweight boxers back then? I'm pretty sure way-back-when a six foot two hundred pounder was considered a hoss but today there's at least a couple in every crowd, not to mention the over all population is much, much larger and the countries allowing citizens to participate in pro boxing is greater. I imagine if the USSR had allowed its men to fight professionally I'm sure there would have been more than one of them who didn't meet the criteria of being in The Bum of the Month Club.''

Watching the youtube clip of Baer-Braddock shows that the fighters, at least those two, definitely weren't technically superior to the heavyweights around today. At 3:08-3:09, I believe it was Baer, made a mistake that would have gotten him flattend vs Vladimir K, the same thing Shufford did vs VK.

Joe Louis would run this current heavyweight division, I'd be surprised if anyone in the top ten took him the distance.

:huhumm ok and I guess I will oblige you with some myth busters

First of all the bigger the dog dont mean the bigger the bite--as in pitbulls. Bigger also dont mean more power in batting, pitching, boxing etc..

Secondly durability and tenacity often trump boxing skills

Thirdly, I have already shown that men were taller in the very ancient past but they were also no shorter in the medieval past.

The average height today is like 5' 8" tall [FONT=&quot]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height
...but I believe that most of the fighters that Marciano faced were 6' and over and here is what some of them had to say about him
