Yes. My gym had three or four main trainers who each trained active amateur and pro fighters. I did pads with one of them. Why?

Just curious: what kind of pad work do you do? With whom do you do it? How often and for how long? How much individual attention do you get in general? Kind of defeats the purpose of "training with" a world-class trainer if he doesn't give you much attention, or work with you to correct your form, etc. Are you in a group class?

I ask because I know the main trainers have limited time, and need to dedicate it to prospects who are serious about training, or people who pay for private time. And it seemed from what you were telling me that you had a more casual aquantince with training.

I paid for private time and it made a huge difference.

Well, I appreciate the honesty, because that's what I would've guessed.

I don't pay for lessons. I'm part of the open gym on the merits of my abilities. A pretty big difference.

If you walk in here, he will tell you to start with he beginner classes. I asked to try the open gym instead of that, and after one workout, he said some nice things and invited me back.

The main trainer, like I said earlier, will do pad work with people getting ready for a fight. There are secondary trainers and boxing fathers who will do pads with you if they have free time or want to work with you. But if the main trainer sees you doing something wrong, he will walk over to you and correct it. Other things take time to develop, and for those he uses repetition.

There's way more to learn at a boxing gym than pad work with the main trainer. Way more.

I remember when I had my own boxing gym in the garage in my late teens early 20's. My heavy bag was 125 pounds and I would hit it non stop in 30 minute increments alternating between bobbing and weaving under and around the bag and coming up with punches and moving side to side jabbing and throwing combos in full Ali mode. Then skipping rope 10,000 times until I was standing in a puddle of sweat and finishing the workout with a 5 mile run. 3-4 times a week I would visit a gym to lift mostly shoulder, back and leg work. Funny thing is that I would finish off each workout running full bore on their commercial treadmills. It was quite a sight with the machine screeching at its highest speed and me running at top speed. I would sometimes gather a small crowd. Several times the treadmills broke down under the stress!

I'm confused why you think this is some kind of honor. From your footage, it is clear that you would be much further along if you'd had more one on one attention. Your reaction to the uppercut description and Contro's hook technique discussion made it clear that you never got some of the most basic tips and pointers about technique. I bet you'd benefit immensely from a skilled trainer actually training you.

And shame on you for liking his comment, DW. I know you know better.

Your pathetic projections are so lame.

You paid out of pocket for attention from a trainer. Anyone can do that!

I knew you paid for lessons which I why I asked. Nobody whose had to actually work hard enough to get a main trainers attention to do pads frequently without paying would ever say the things you do regarding technique. That's how I knew, it was that simple.

You are just as clueless about technique as contro. You criticized the punch technique that is used by some of the best punchers to ever box.
Your hypocrisy would be painfully apparent if you had the courage to upload footage of yourself.

Anyone can pay out of pocket and you should have! You would know more about boxing and you'd probably look better working the bags, at the very least. It seems like you greatly overestimate how far along you are because you (reportedly) punch very hard.

I'll put my understanding of punch technique against yours anytime...

Rez wins hands down here. He combines lateral movement with punching technique well. You can always tell the beginners who stand static at the heavy bag unable to chew gum and walk at the same time.

I'm not paying for private lessons because I want to grow organically.

A trainer will stay busy if you pay them. If you don't pay them, they will develop you more honestly, and they will have less patience for lackluster training. You will have to work your ass off to get their attention.

You paid $100 to feel like Mayweather and Toney hitting the pads.
Everyone in that gym knew you didn't deserve to be up there, had you not paid. Which is totally cool unless you're a pompous d*ckhead.

Honestly, if I paid my trainer for private lessons, I'd feel like I was letting him down. Because I'm basically telling him that I'm not willing to put in the work to earn this. Maybe thats just me.

    Have you sparred someone ever?
Like full out, who was trying to knock your head off? How did your technique hold up?
Anybody with some decent sparring experience is humble and open minded to various styles. In real boxing, not private lessons, some dude out there can walk through your three best punches and land a short punch that can seriously hurt you, even if he looks different.

It's obvious from your harsh views on guys with great talent like Marciano, that you don't know jack **** about punching.

Which would all be even more evident if you manned up, and did what you told others to do, which was to upload footage to back up your talk.

Throw on that ski mask, and let's see your footage slugger.

    I appreciate it Perry. Agreed.
Also you can see his jab coming from 10 miles away, because he completely freezes before throwing it at a 60lb bag.
    He's a heavyweight.
I'm 155lb using jabs to lift a long bag that weighs at least 100lb, while moving, keeping form, etc.

The type of people that trash the skills of old time greats.
    Says something. Really, it does.
