Did Archie Moore have any opinions on Rocky versus the later champions?
That would be interesting to hear.

What's your take on Ali saying that not only would he beat Marciano ,so would younger versions of Louis,Walcott ,and Moore?

Let me make a point about Moore-Marciano. Archie stated later on that it was "the big man vs the little man" but they both weighed 188 on fight night. I realize Moore fought at lower weights but was at 175 for years and Marciano wasn't exactly a Valuev sized guy. True, Moore was almost 6 years older than Rocky but he fought
for 7 more years while Rocky retired after that fight.

I'm not sure there was a "younger" Archie Moore. The dude was born old.

Then he goes on to say that Marciano, Dempsey, and Johnson would have given him the most trouble.

Perhaps you would like to answer the question for me as I'm only a noob.
What's your take on him saying younger versions of Louis, Moore ,and Walcott beat Marciano?

How do you think Lowry would do with Ali? Or how about Lastarza?

He was 40, past prime which he himself confirmed in a taped interview in October 1970.

It's not just a case of having bang up to date video or being able to watch clips of a fight on our phones. It's about knowing what you're looking for and having the knowledge and experience to analyse what is going on in that footage. I could get a video in crystal clear definition of how to split an atom but I still wouldn't know wtf they were on about.

That's why boxing programmes used Steward as a pundit. He had decades of experience and had trained multiple world champions at various stages of their careers from Tommy Hearns and Gerald McLellan from the amateurs through to Lennox Lewis and Wlad Klitshko. He knew his stuff. You reckon someone with an iPhone 7 would make a better pundit than Manny?

I'm deliberately oversimplifying to make a point. That point being that we haven't made great strides in understanding boxing simply because we now have slightly less grainy footage and more ways to see it.

Having trained 41 world champions I would expect Steward to be able to recognize the qualities and flaws in fighters.
