He hasnt been boxing for that long so its okay. Because unless you atleast trained and physically felt the way throwing different punches with different forms/techniques feels in your body, you wouldnt really know. Theres certain things you cant tell/learn just by watching boxing. You have to experience some things yourself to get a really complete understanding of boxing IMO, and i applaud @reznick for getting in the gym. There are too many armchair experts out there, especially in the boxing community. The difference between watching/studying boxing and actually participating is bigger than in most sports because of the element of courage, determination and focus/calm needed while being under physical assault.

coming from them stubby/stocky legs as well, pure power. Marciano was the man at his weight range through out history imo. Worry about him when fighting 200lb plus true fighters though in mythical matchups. Rocky gets flack h2h and its only size that defeats him for me.

I misread what kevin said. I thought he was asking ME if a hook HAS to be 90 degrees, but he wasnt even talking to me so i deleted my post

I agree with this, and I hope he sticks with it. But I just assumed that all decent trainers went over certain things like the proper punching form for basic punches within the first several sessions on the pads (at least that was my experience, and what I've observed). Reznick has previously referred to his time in the gym and the instruction he's received there as proof that he understands boxing technique, so I found his disapproval of a perfectly fine description of how to throw and uppercut and his shock at your description of the optimal arm angle for a hook kind of surprising.

Spot on. I think we talked about this a bit in another thread, where some people here were trying to say that Tony Galento's wide hooks were very similar in form to David Tua's hooks.

totally. Deservedly known as the king of sports for the reason you stated. Heavyweight champion of the world imo has always been credited with being top of all sports

One thing that can be said is after he nailed him with the right hand ,he (Marciano) didn't fall into a clinch, like a lot of fighters do today, he stepped back, got out of opponents range so he couldn't grab, got back quickly into range, finished the show.

    Yeah man go for it.

You're definitely not punching harder than this.
I'll tell you that before you become discouraged.

I'm definitely still learning and refining. But like I said my coach told me I'm one of the two hardest hitters in the gym.

    No.
That wall excercise helps you feel the hip rotation more, and helps you become more consistent at applying that specific punching technique when you need it.

The downside is you have to sit down more, and the range is shorter.

A wicked shoulder snap let's you deliver power with more dynamic possibilities.

I don't doubt that your trainer is world class. I'm just very surprised that he didn't emphasize the importance of keeping your hooks tight and not dropping your punching arm much when you throw uppercuts. What are your workouts with him usually like? Do you do one-on-one sessions or is it mostly group-based? Does he work you out on the pads often? In your time at the gym, what advice has he given you on your form for various punches (if you remember anything in particular)?

Here some footage from me trying to hit the bag in my fathers shed after i broke my ankle when i was 18. I dont have any recent footage because i havent really gone back to training since then. Anyway the shed was always full with my dads stuff so i could never really move around there but anyway.
