Is it true that he used to train using a 275 lb heavybag?

The only thing I know of, regarding Rocky's power, is when he visited an army barracks or something. They had some kind of device soldiers used to punch that gave measurements of force. Most of them averaged 400 or so and rocky bashed the thing into the late 700's

Anyone have a link to this? Not read it for quite some time. It may have been a book.

Marciano used to leave huge dents in the bag he used when he hit it so if its true that it weighed 275 pounds his powers even greater than i thought.

I believe Foreman used an extremely heavy heavybag during his second career (1987-1997). I think it's because noone in his camp wanted to hold the bag for him, so Dundee brought in a bag that wouldn't move much when he hit it. I want to say it was 400 pounds, but thats just a guess.

The weight of the bag is not a big factor. For example, your arm will not be moving any faster with a heavier bag. It may take more to "move" the bag, but you shouldn't punch with the emphasis on "moving" the bag.

    - Ross Enamait

However, it seems that using a heavier bag would be a good gauge of punching power. For example if you can move a heavier bag a lot without pushing it, you've probably got some good pop.

I read on another forum that Marciano used a 300 pound bag made specifically for him.

im not sure if it was 275 lbs but i remember heariung it was heavier then most.

this would build his endurance and punching power all the way up until the 15th round

i dont know why you dont see these bags in amatuer gyms it ceases to amaze me
