I've never thought there was much to choose between them myself.Except that Lewis had more dedication [two occasions excepted,] Which is why he achieved more. That why Futch pulled stumps on Bowe.
I don't know man. Sounds like you're predisposed to chastise anyone that says anything good about him. I posted a breakdown of how I think Rocky would utilize his style and stance to exploit the giants. You are more than free to build off that argument, but you seem more concerned with telling people how wrong they are. You say you are looking for objective analysis, but it looks like you don't actually want to partake in that. What the hell is wrong with that? There are certain fighters who can overcome bad situations. Liston and Marciano are on the opposite spectrums of this. Ali is another guy who can "find a way to win," when his physical advantages aren't there. The fact that you would just dismiss that makes me worried about your ability to have a balanced debate on Marciano.
No, what worries you is I don't happen to agree with you.So I must dislike/hate Marciano. I'm predisposed to call irrational hero- worship without any objective analysis BS.
Whether you like him or not, is not as important to me as trying to correct what I perceive to be misinformation and exaggerated opinions in a place where people come to learn about boxing.
He would have absolutely no chance whatsoever, except for Liston, we are talking about a 50s athlete under 190lbs vs modern juggernauts well over 200 pounds, it's ridiculous, such mismatches wouldn't even be sanctioned...
What forced Lewis to lose balance in that clip? Did he get hit? Did he trip? Why did he lose balance? Because he threw a huge punch. Amateurs with bad balance don't fall on the floor. It's something a huge puncher does, when they don't have the balance to sustain it. It doesn't mean it's bad balance. Think about it. If Rocky never threw bombs, he would not slip to the floor. Would that make him more balanced? Rocky had really good balance. It's just he stretched it's limits with the way he punched.
Exactly... It was not a nice display from Wladimir, truth be told, but he outpunched a gold medalist tank like Povetkin too, he took some monster shots in there... People should also count the fact that contenders were getting desperate with Wladimir, trying to rush on his inside at every opportunity... Povetkin is one of the very best HWs around...
"When the esteemed Charley Goldman, who would become Marciano's trainer, first saw Rocky, he told Angelo Dundee, his assistant, "I gotta a guy who's short, stoop-shouldered, balding, got two left feet and, God, how he can punch." http://www.espn.com/classic/biography/s/Marciano_Rocky.html This two left feet quote was said before Goldman developed Rocky. Before Goldman even worked a day with Rocky. It's an insight to his raw traits, but one must note that this was said before Goldman refined Marciano as a boxer. I just think Rocky had really good balance, relative to his style, and what he was doing with his punches. Most people can't throw the kinds of punches he throws without stumbling all over themselves, and being completely out of position. But compared to some arm punchers who never stumble throughout a whole fight, yeah when you look at it like that, his balance wasn't that good. But I guess I don't personally look at it like that. And yeah, there are really good punchers who had much better balance than Rocky.
