Every Marciano hater has a twig to pick - yet let logs be overlooked when it comes to their favorite fighters- you are one of his haters- Lets see if you use the same measurement against your heroes

Not according to the great Jack Hurley.

Don Cokkell was decent. His credentials were not really so different to Tommy Farr when Farr fought Joe Louis. Both were British champions. Both had first been lightheavyweights. Apart from Neusel most of Farrs best wins could have went either way.

What counts against Don is he looked fat and he lost to Marciano. But the guy was just as legit.

Hurley said Mathews didn't know how to fight ,since Cokkell's international credentials hinge solely on wins over Mathews and a washed up Lastarza it doesn't reflect well on Cokkell!
PS Cokkell didn't "look fat" .He was fat!lol

    Farr clearly beat
    Baer
    Gains
    Burman
    Neusel
    Foord
His only questionable win over a good Yank was the decision over Loughran,
    He dropped debateable decisions to
    Burman
    Braddock
    Nova
And took Joe Louis 15 rds

    Cokkell beat
Beshore Who had won 1 of his last 6 fights.Over the lamentable Art Henri 13-14-1
Mathews At 180lbs really a lhvy
    Lastarza

    Lost by ko to
    Turpin 12lbs the lighter man
Slade A lhvy with a ko percentage of less than18%!
    Marciano
    Valdes
    Lave
There is no comparison in either the quality of their wins or in the manner of their defeats!
Your post is entirely and intentionally dishonest.

what are you talking about! No it is not dishonest to say BOxing News picked Don to win. It is not dishonest to say Jack Hurley said Don would beat Rocky. It is not dishonest or unreasonable to say Tommy Farr and Don both were British champions and world rated when fighting for the title.

was Hurley saying Mathews can’t fight until he came to him or was he saying Mathews can’t fight as in “he can box but can’t fight”? As we both know, There have been a lot of fighters who can really only box but would be in trouble if they are made to fight.

Lastarza took a beating from Marciano but was still young and fighting with ambition against Charlie Norkus AFTER losing to Don in a film you can watch on YouTube.

I have the film of Farr vs Burman. I don’t think Farr won that fight. He did better against Braddock but did not win that either. Farr was a booth fighter. He fought only so hard to keep a fight close, as he did against Louis. All film I have seen the fights could have went either way. Max Baer thought he was robbed too. But he beat Neusel. That was a good win.

what’s so different between those guys and Neusel Burman And Baer?

If your going to go down that route, a route where the equivalent is including men Farr lost to after fighting Louis then we can list Burman, Nova, Baer And Braddock who beat Tommy. And if Lave and Valdes count, Tommy was Knocked out by Frank Bell and even Don Cokkell himself.. And if you are including Dons lightheavyweight career Farr lost to Eddie Philips three times, cast Iron Casey And others.

If your going to go down that road and include Dons lightheavyweight career can we mention Tommy lost badly to Eddie Philips three times and to Sunderland hard man cast iron Casey? If, as you have with Don, we include men Farr lost to after challenging for the title let’s mention Men like Baer, nova, Burman, washed up Braddock and even knockout losses to Lloyd Marshall, Frank bell and Don Cokkell..

More dishonesty Farr was 38 when he lost to Bell and 40 when he lost to Cokkell and he was only boxing because he was bankrupt."I was prostituting myself really" Farr was in the midst of a comeback after being retired for 10 years!

Is that any worse than mentioning Cokkell getting brained by Kitione Lave after his appalling effort against Valdes? Don was a whopping 12lb heavier than he had been against Marciano, he was even 10lb heavier than the much bigger Valdes, and was clearly never the same man again.

“Valdez slashed ****ell's left eyebrow so badly that the stocky British champion was forced to retire at the end of the third round of their scheduled 10-round bout at White City Stadium Tuesday night”

the unknown youngster from Tongo, Kitione Lave did an even better job on Don, proving that Don was never competitive again after losing to Rocky. He knocked a lighter version of Don all over the ring in an absolute massacre that lasted just 2 rounds.

To give you and idea of how far Don had fallen by the time he lost to Nino and Kitione, Lave only lasted one round with Johnny Williams. Don had won the British heavyweight title from Johnny Williams.

Cokkell being stopped byTurpin and Slade,BEFORE MARCIANO, men he significantly outweighed, one a middleweight, the other a light hitting lhvy ,puts Cokkell into perspective as far as his world class credentials are concerned.

Career finished Walcott, Charles, Moore and a fat bum took Rocky to the brim.
Its beyond absurd that one of the top 5 prime ATG H2H HWs in Larry Holmes loosing this fight.
Best LH was at least three leagues above this fellows: One for beeing young, second for beeing 2 weightclasses above, and another for beeing HW ATG material. He put more offensive pressure on his opponents than prime Ali did.
I don´t see Rocky lasting the distance here. Absolute mismatch. It would be hard to watch, hoping the underdog better try at LHW or CW next time instead of getting in the ring with the likes of Cooney, Witherspoon or James Smith.
