The thread is far more speculation than most as we have zero to go on ... Marciano, a fighter who relied on strength and power advantages never fought large heavyweights and most of Tyson's title reign was fought against huge guys ...

Joe Louis was as large as most of those guys Tyson fought in his 1986-'90 reign, and even at 37 was as good or better.

Some of those styles are very difficult for Rocky and effectively he's moving up a division or 2. He's unproven against 6'3--6'5 220lb who were faster than him with very good jabs. Pinklon Thomas could be a very bad style that may beat him, the same thing with Tony Tucker. Holmes he likely beats but would make hard work of him. Spinks he beats but again its hard work. Tubbs is very a underrated Aliesque boxer, Douglas at his very best a phenomenon

While I hesitate to pick anyone over him, I can't see Marciano going undefeated from 86-90

Marciano beat the best in his time. there were big heavyweights in his day that were contenders but Walcott,Charles,Moore,Lastarza,Johnson beat them all in a dominant way.

Marciano would do well and I do not think Tysons era was so good. A 90's version of Marciano would be a bigger more muscular version due to the change in conditioning and lack of 15 rd fights and genetically he would be thicker and taller but if we had to parachute Marciano to the 90's he would still beat them all Great is Great

Pinklon Thomas isn't beating Marciano, that's ridiculous.
Thomas was too easy to hit, not enough power, and clearly on his way down.

The only ridiculous thing is that Thomas is 1 of the most underrated contenders in HW history, he would have dethroned Holmes if not ducked, had 1 of the best HW jabs and was 1 of the better technicians in HW history and no was not easy to hit

Marciano had problems with past prime technicians his own size, here hes fighting a very good technician he's giving up 30lbs, 4inches in height, and loads of reach to.

Well, he was eating punches from Weaver, Coetzee, Berbick, Tyson. And when he was badly faded he turned into an instant punch bag.

He wasn't a great "technician in HW history" by any stretch. Berbick just waded in and outworked him.
Thomas was a big strong guy with a heavy jab, but not a skillful technician. Which isn't surprising, considering his lack of amateur experience and his few pro fights before he became a contender.

    One of my favourites though.

Thomas was past his best against Tyson too. Badly faded at 29, washed-up at 30.
Joe Louis was about the same size as Thomas.

Rocky started fighting decent fighters in 1950 with the first La Starza fight and perhaps Vingo. Those were decent fighters but not true heavyweights. After fighting 5 years of similar sized cruiser types he was worn out. I think it would take only a couple fights with monsters like Bonecrusher Smith, Tucker and Bruno before the same problems that forced his retirement would surface, back problmes, nose problems, headaches... A 185 lb guy, no matter who he is, just isn't durable enough to last that many fights against the type of monsters Tyson fought and dispatched. And no, folks, the stooped, narrow shouldered, stumpy-limbed Marciano would not put on weight gracefully. Additional weight would amplify his limitations if anything.

All in all, I see him getting worn down fairly quickly with the schedule Tyson kept, and I see him losing a couple times before hanging up the gloves for the above stated reasons. Tucker, Douglas, Ruddock, Smith, all have a shot against if for no other reason due to their immense strength.

However, put him in the division where he belongs, the cruiserweight division, and he leads a reign of terror, providing epic fights against Holyfield, Qawi... etc.

  12. pinklon thomas beating marciano? lmao rocky would extract his head. rocky would beat all them. he would have work against tucker, tillis, green or any fast stylist but finally rocky wins. actually i think that marciano would beat even lennox lewis

Yet, he fought no one remotely in the model of the 1980's/90's large, strong heavies, most of whom relied on ramrod jabs, great strength and great power. He beat cruisers (primarily old worn-out cruisers) in his title run and title reign, and a few years of doing that left him broken.

The thought of what Lennox Lewis would do to him in a ring, especially while carrying the wear and tear from a series of fights against the likes of Tucker, Ruddock, Douglas and Smith, is putting me off my feed.
