why are people so adamant that he did more road work and training than anyone else? Or believe thathe punched harder than a armor peircing bullet?? Its the myths like this that actually cause more damage to his legacy than help him.

Or pehaps some of you are older than I thought lol.

Damn good top ten ATG though, I think someone mentioned that he massively overacheived given his limited abilties and proved them wrong, I think thats the bottom line on the Rock.

I agree. It actually devalues his legacy.

He was an obssessive trainer though, and was damn strict with his diet, too. Not saying others haven't been just as hard working or dedicated, but Marciano's dedication to fitness is truly inspiring.

Funny thing is, in the amateurs he was a bit soft (around 200 lbs.) and also smoked. All that changed when he lost a fight due to poor stamina.

People often associate Rocky Marciano for fighting old timers, not realising that Tyson's average age of *quality* opponents was actually higher during the 80s..

Marciano's win over Jersey Joe Walcott is an ATG win, JJW was in his prime (even at his age) and was winning the fight easily on the scorecards.
Marciano's wins over Ezzard Charles were also ATG wins, Charles is a top 10 fighter of all time and managed to go the distance with Marciano using his boxing skills
Archie Moore was still a very game fighter at that stage
Marciano dominated the rest of that era with relative ease

People forget that Marciano would not be 185 today. With the advancements in nutrition and what not, he'd be well over 200. I would say 220. I bet he would have some success today. Maybe not against tall guys around 6'7 or so, like Lewis or the K brothers, but all these other scrubs? He'd be killing them.

The people who hate on Marciano tend to know little or nothing about boxing.

I believe Marciano to be one of the fittest, toughest men ever to lace on the gloves. Hi stamina and ability to take punisment was unreal, plus he packed a helluva dig.

I wonder if he wrote a book on the transformation. He'd make millions on that book today.

  12. I love Louis but he was not any where near his prime. He was a good name eitherway. He was like the Holmes of the Tyson fight I guess.

  13. No I respect the Klitschko brothers and I think they are good guys but I gotta be honest. They definitely have an advantage because they have each other to tag team the division.
There is so much emphasis on size these days in the HW division but Marciano was small and fought and beat guys bigger than the Klitschko's.
He KO'd a guy who weighed 254 pounds while he himself was only 185! Powerful man Rocky was.

This is how I see it.

As far as I'm concerned, Mike Tyson's KOs over Holmes and Spinks are as good or better than anything on Marciano's resume and I see no reason whatsoever to rank Marciano ahead of Tyson.

Mike Tyson has a better resume. If Mike can't make the top ten then I see no reason why Marciano should.
