I hate to be stereotypical, but could Marciano really overcome the size difference? Ruddock's smash would land and how many times could Marciano take it?

I would make Ruddock a slight favourite. I wouldn't be surprised if he won by a clean one-punch KO, a stoppage or by decision. It might be a torrid war.

Razor Ruddock. He could fight, he got off the deck and came back firing.

Having said that, Rocky's far too "live" an "undergog" in my reckoning for me to confidently pick Ruddock or bet on him. If Rocky lands on Ruddock the flush shot that he put on Walcott then it's probably over too.

a hard punch is a punch and as Big as a man gets the chin does not get stronger. Rudduck was KO'd a few times. Marciano would land a blaster and fight the fight close. Rocky gets him about the 8th

Barring an asthma attack, Ruddock dispatches him within 6.

I don't think that Ruddock was busy enough to beat Marciano.

Those Tyson-Ruddock fights were brutal!!! - Two of my favourite fights - don't see the outcome versus Marciano being anymore favourable for Ruddock though unfortunately - seemed like a very honest guy and very likeable aswell as being a great contender - but for some reason he lost against all the top guys in the end - Tommy Morrison, Lennox Lewis - Tyson twice - for all his heart and pride he did take a severe shellacking against Tyson most of both fights - yeah he made a fight of it and stood and traded with Mike but on the whole he was the one taking the worst of it - great chin to take so much really - but Tysons approach in those fights was literally devoid of any thought or technique - Marciano beat a great Champion (on arguably his greatest night) in Jersey Joe Walcott, whereas Ruddock was just a great contender - Marciano would do what he did best and win by a knockout.

    Agreed,

Rocky's style and trajectory when coming in, would make a nice landing pad for that left uppercut of Razor's, and I don't just see that punch as landing only once either.. Sure, Rocky could hit and Razor was KO'd badly by Lewis, but I think that was more attributed to a styles thing rather than Donoven being able to take a shot.. Ruddock survived the power of both Tyson and Smith, each of whom probably packed more power in a single punch than Rocky did... The size difference in this bout would not just be marginal either, but significant.

Are you ****ing kidding me? The Ruddock of the Tyson fights, didn't jab, didn't keep his hands up, he was a tough but stationary target that loaded up with uppercuts. Tyson was very lethargic and flat at this point, probably worse than the Douglas fight, and Ruddock would still walk into punches and get outworked. Walcott had a great left uppercut too but after those first two rounds, Rocky started catching him leaning in with a quick right cross counter as shown in the video below. Marciano at this point might have even had better sustained hand speed than Iron Mike, who was just unusually sloppy and sluggish. The love for Ruddock on this form is sickening and incomphrensible.

    A side by side:

"What is Ruddock waiting for...they are just looking at each other in the clinch.... why isn't that jab out there!"

The Original Razor...and Charles is way better than a washed up Dokes. Ruddock needed a full snapping extension to generate that freakish Razor Smash, he struggled to do that against the short, crouching Tyson...who was upright and not even bobbing anymore. Walcott's left uppercut was quick, accurate, set up with feints, and much more compact, ideal for Marciano and he still struggled to get it off.

Curiously Ruddock weighed no more than Marciano in some of his earlier fights aged 21 or so.

To hear some people talk here you would think that all it took to beat Rocky Marciano was a heavy right hand and a bodyweight of over 220lbs.

If you really think that Ruddock would beat Marciano you should not be rating him among your top 20 all time heavyweights because there are fighters like Ruddock in every era.

Ruddock is the type of fighter who will always fall short against the verry best.

I'm closer in my sentiments with Mongoose. My opinion is somewhere in the middle of the two opinions here. Don't think Ruddock is fundamentally sound enough. And to just brawl Marciano for 15 would fall into Rocky's hands. Does he have the conditioning or power to win this way. I would say it's a 60/40 fight which I favor Rocky. Ruddock just fell too much in love with his power.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'd probably make it 55/45 in Ruddock's favour because I figure the kind of punches he does have in his arsenal would be ones that are effective against Rocky. I think he was very accurate with that left-hand "smash" uppercut.
Both fighters had heart to get up off the deck and fight back. Both guys can also render the other unconscious with a single blow. And the styles match up well. It makes for a great fight. I'd slightly favour Ruddock. I think think either man can end it early or mid-rounds, I'd favour Rocky more likely to score a late KO. Both could win a decision in a brawl.

Ruddock's head is torn off his shoulders by Rocky's Suzie Q, but in typical Ruddock fashion he picks himself up off the canvas and continues to fight without a head.

I am fully prepared to acknowledge that size matters at some point.

A lot of people are forgetting that quality also matters.
