I think Dempsey was certainly the bigger in terms of having power in both hands, however the Suzie Q may have been more powerful than Dempsey's right hand. Overall, I'd pick Dempsey as being the bigger puncher.

I wouldn't like to get hit by either one. Dempsey said Rocky was the type of guy who could take you out with one shot, Louis said he hurt you with everything and I say I wouldn't want to get hit by any of the 3 of them

Fleischer who saw them both live leaned toward Dempsey as being the harder puncher.

Fred Fulton KNEW how to fight. Jess Willard was NEVER floored before he was eviscerated. Firpo not a classy fighter was a BULL who was flattened by a one-two thrown so fast you can hardly see it in slow motion...Battling Levinsky was never stopped before in his life. He was a great defensive fighter who had about 200 bouts. I saw Marciano ringside and training and had great respect for Rocky but truly, though a powerful puncher Rocky missed half his punches, and against the prime Manassa Mauler
I am certain that Jack Dempsey's two handed swift and accurate blows would get their first and I agree with the almost unanimous boxing experts polled when Marciano was champion
who picked Dempsey over Marciano both in their primes. Who should be closer to the truth S, the veteran boxing people who were polled and saw both Dempsey and Marciano fight or you over 90 years later ?...Styles makes fights and the much faster
and more accurate punching Dempsey had the right style to beat Marciano...

Who hit harder is debatable. As mentioned Fleischer leaned towards Dempsey as being the harder puncher. Both men were among the hardest punchers in boxing history and this says plenty.

Dempsey's were more explosive and Marciano's were harder like a thud.

I'd go along with this...I think they were "different" kinds of puncher.

I'd say that Dempsey was the sharper, quicker, buzzing, more stinging puncher but that Marciano had that heavy, bludgeoning, sickening kind of power that sickens you down to your gut when you get hit by it.

    Dempsey was lightning

    Marciano was thunder.

Explosiveness would have to go to Dempsey, He is the bang in the explosion, Rocky is the concussive force after it.

Both will leave you out and done.

Both could hit a ton. I agree with what you said. In terms of one shot power fight altering power I'd pick Rocky by narrow margin.

I'd have to go with Dempsey's speed of punch, and the fact that he missed a lot less than Marciano, and had better balance.

Dempsey fought in a older era obviously he would say that. Fleischer also said Max Baer was better than Muhammad Ali.
