A bit of a fun question but anyway .. I've always thought Rocky and Hagler had similar Chin s . Both could soak up a Fair bit of hard shots and neither man ws ever stopped . So with that in mind ,who's set of Whisker's at Heavyweight iyo resemble s Hearns and Leonard s ??
Leonard: Larry Holmes (both movers that could be caught, but when they were caught they could usually take it) Hearns: Bob Foster (lanky with power to ward off, but if they're caught they're done)
Larry Holmes has a similar scrappy attitude and toughness similar to leanard. Both relieid on good reflexes and ring generalship to dictate the pace and avoid shots but they werent shy of a dog fight. Neither had "granite" chins and were badly hurt in a few fights but their recovery powers and heart were amazing.
Lenord Ali or Holmes .could be hurt but normally fought back. Hearns was I hate to say a bit Bruno didn't come back when hurt very often.
I'm not even exaggerating when I say I think Hagler had a better chin than Marciano. And not just pfp, I can't see Hagler getting dropped by Moore or Walcott even as a middleweight
Tbf Marciano didn't really seem hurt in those drops. Moreso being caught off balance, he was down for less than 5 in both It was like how Hagler was "knocked down" by Juan Roldan Also Walcott imo would definitely drop Hagler. Look at what he did to Charles and Louis
To be fair Hearns responded noticeably better when hurt than Bruno. He was hurt in various fights he won including Roldan, SRL II (yes he won) and Kinchen. He also came back after a pretty early early knock down in the Barkley rematch and ran it very close. He certainly wasn't "done" when caught.
A closer example imo for Hearns would be Floyd Patterson with the caveat that Patterson was more prone to hit the floor when hurt whilst Hearns was more prone to being hurt on his feet.
I agree. I don't think Moore or Walcott would drop Hagler. But the first sentence is more accurate. Hagler had a better chin than Marciano, p4p. There's too many variables when you compare chins from different weight classes. Maybe Moore/Walcott wouldn't floor Hagler, maybe they would. It's hard to say because Hagler only fought at middleweight. At 160, he fought Thomas Hearns, John Mugabi, Roberto Duran, Eugene Hart, Caveman Lee, Fulgencio Obelmejias, Bennie Briscoe, Juan Domingo Roldan, Tony Sibson, Ray Leonard, Wilford Scypion. All these guys could punch. P4P, I have Hagler higher than Marciano. But head to head, it's impossible to say who had a better chin. It's just an opinion at that point.
Good one John !I had Patterson in mind wen thinking of Tommy's chin. Not the greatest of Chin's obviously but at times unpredictable .Patterson stood up to Ali's best punches whilst Tommy went the full 12 in his rematch against Sugar .So in essence there Chin proved better in the latter fight s .
Lol Hagler was never knocked down and fought guys who were in their primes. Marciano was knocked down by old Archie Moore with one punch and old Jersey Joe Walcott with one punch and Marciano only fought old men and bums. Yeah Marciano and Hagler's chins were similar only to the typical casual clueless boxing fan.
