Marciano the heavyweight GOAT

I don't see him being ranked over Ali, Louis, Lewis or Holmes personally. But if people want to rank him over Tyson, Frazier, Holyfield, Klitschko or Foreman I understand.

You noticed how the rules that apply to every other fighter doesn't apply to certain fighters? For example if you asked one of these sad Rocky Marciano fans could the 5'11 160-170 pound Roy Jones Jr could beat Rocky Marciano they will tell you know Because Jones Jr is too small. But then the same people will turn around and say the 5'10 185 pound Rocky Marciano could beat the 6'5 240 pond Wladimir Klitschko, 6'7 240 pound Vitali Klitscko, 6'3 230 pound George Foreman, 6'4 1/2 230-240 Lennox Lewis ect because size doesn't matter?

Rocky Marciano fans are the worse fans in boxing. They are the least knowledgeable fans in boxing. So let me give anybody on this forum who actually knows boxing and watched it because you love it. Just ignore anybody who even mentions Rocky Marciano's name.

 

So Floyd Mayweather should also be considered the greatest heavyweight of all time even though he never fought a heavyweight right? But since Floyd never to anybody they put in front of him then clearly that means he could beat people in some cases over 100 pounds heavier than him?

Also what does going 15 rounds have to do with being a heavyweight? So you are saying if any fighter can go 15 rounds that means they can automatically beat a modern sized heavyweight? Marciano struggled with chinny natural 170 pound Archie Moore, Marciano lost to 180 pound Roland LaStarza and got a gift win. Marciano got beat from pillar to post by 170 pound club fighter Ted Lowry. But yeah that clearly makes Marciano one of the greatest heavyweights of all time even though Marciano wasn't a heavyweight by modern standards and never beat any modern sized heavyweights

The stuff you Marciano fans state prove you are by far the least intelligent people on Earth.

 

I think if criteria includes retiring at the right time, a good case can be made for Marciano.

The man was a warrior. He came along, won the top prize, defended it a few times, retired undefeated. Knocked most of his opponents out. Was always in shape, always came to fight. A pure warrior.

 

The only way Marciano would be in the convo as a all time heavyweight great he would have to be a modern heavyweight and beat modern size heavyweights.

Ali lost all three Ken Norton fights. All himself has stated this. Ali only beat Frazier because Frazier was never the same after beating George Foreman gave him. Sonny Liston was never really that good. His best wins came against 180 pound Floyd Patterson and no talent Cleveland Williams. Sonny was also past his prime when Ali fought him. Ali beat Foreman because of Foreman's own stupidity. Ali also struggled with pretty much every modern sized heavyweight he faced and even some smaller guys. Doug Jones a natural 180/190 guy gave Ali fits and most people think Ali lost. Ali was almost knocked out with one punch by 190 pound Henry Cooper. Ali struggled with guys like Joe Bugner. Ali clearly lost both fights to Leon Spinks. You might say but Ali was old. Foreman beat much better fighters than Leon Spinks when Foreman was much older.

There is no 1 greatest fighter off all time because all fighters have weaknesses and will lose if they fight good enough boxers.

 

Well the only people who still keep bring up how great Marciano was are Italians or just white guys period. Every other group of people know Marciano wasn't even good for 185 pound boxer standards. His career is based off him beating Old Joe Louis who was overrated himself, old Archie Moore, old Ezzard Charles and old Jersey Joe Walcott four fighters who weren't modern sized heavyweights themselves. Marciano's fans will never mention 180 pound Roland LaStarza beating him or 170 pound club fighter Ted Lowry beating the stuffing out of Marciano and almost knocking him.

Lol what does him retiring "undefeated" have to do with Marciano not being a modern sized heavyweight and not fighting modern sized heavyweights. I know your Marciano fans aren't the brightest of light bulbs but you do realize there are weight classes in boxing right? That is like saying since Floyd Mayweather retired "undefeated" and Bob Foster didn't so Mayweather could beat Bob Foster. Marciano retired undefeated because of the low level guys he faced. Second he actually lost to Roland LaStarza and Ted Lowry. Third Marciano wouldn't even be in the top 100 Cruiser weights off all time if he faces modern competition. Marciano had zero skills, zero talent, and zero anything else that would make a good boxer. Beating up old men, bums, and guys controlled the Mafia doesn't make you great.

 

It doesn't "invalidate" it but it puts an asterisk there to anyone whose being honest.

John Ruiz somehow won his title by fighting an old Hoylfield coming off a loss for a title that was vacant to begin with. He beat Hoylfield in name only and Hoylfield shouldn't have been qualified for a title shot at all. Sometimes older fighters get freebies and undeserved rankings or title shots due to their prior reputation. I'm not saying this applies to all of Rocky's older challengers, but I was addressing your claim that age isn't a factor when judging a win.

The challengers age is relevant when evaluating the win if they are significantly worse than they were in their prime. Both Bowe and Ruiz beat Hoylfield (the best win for both), but I would imagine the vast majority of people rank Bowe higher for obvious reasons (especially if we're comparing their best wins).
