I was being perfectly honest and picking what I would actually bet on.

Marciano's size would not hold him back against Smith, Tucker, Spinks, Thomas, or Bruno as much as his lack of speed, quickness, and footwork. Marciano would not have been a top 50 fighter in the 80s-90s and he wouldn't come close to a title fight unless he bought a ticket. Larry Holmes was like the child pointing out that the Emperor had no clothes when he blurted out the truth about Marciano's ability.

I'm not interested in watching a RM Highlight video on YT with music and narrated by some guy who is trying to convince viewers that RM was a master boxer. Those videos are ridiculous. RM was what he was, a slow, clumsy fighter who was fighting people who were worse than him.

So you got Rocky losing to title challengers like Cobb. Drum roll please---Scott Frank. When was the last time anyone referenced the boxing prowess of Scott Frank?

Most of those challengers should not have been able to even get a title shot. And just how many of these guys were good defensively?

And these are and were top 10. Not top 50 as you stated.

It was a moderately talented era with far more matches not made than matches that were made. The thing that bailed it out was Tyson coming along and cleaning up the mess in about 18 months. Without Mike, we would have had a round robin of guys winning the title and losing it in their first or second defense.

Cobb and Frank are not among the 5 Holmes challengers I picked, could you confine it to them?

Tyson beats the lot with Charles giving him the most competitive fight.

Marciano would be favourite to beat Tyson's challengers but there would always be a risk that heavy hitters such as Bruno and Smith would stop him if he was caught with hard enough shots. if not, then Rocky wins.

The problem with your Rose colored view is that in this case Marciano is fighting very large skilled Heavies with excellent chins who do not have 6000 fights on the clock, are shop worn ,balding and old as the Ar0ch of Noah yet he was still knocked down and had to come from behind vs those Light Heavies, in other words he went life and death .
