Since the Marciano v Liston thread has run for a while ,I thought maybe I'd try this .Prime for Prime. Rocky v Riddick.
    Who, and why?

Mismatch. Bowe was FAR too big for Rocky. He'd have beaten the living **** outta Marciano. On the outside with his jab, and on the inside he'd have raped Marciano with his uppercuts.

Bowe stops him in about 6-7.

Bowe might be big but Rocky wasn't afraid to get stuck in with anyone and wouldn't be awed. I don't think Rock should be written off and can def hurt Bowe bad plus he soaks up a lot of damage.

BUT advantage is probably with Bowe, probably by tko, Rock wont get KOed but he will end up a bad mess and will give bowe hell to the body.

I agree with Xplosive, this fight is a mismatch. Bowe would dominate with the
jab and manhandle Marciano on the inside. Bowe KO 5.

Yeah I don't think the great Marciano would stand a chance against Big Daddy Bowe. Bowe is just too big I think he'd destroy Marciano with his jab and combination punching. Even on the inside I think Bowe would hammer Marciano just as bad with his combinations and especially his uppercuts I'd bet on Bowe to put him away in 3.

Isn't there some sort of response generator that could make these threads with out our participation... randomly sprinkling in the phrases "monastic dedication", "iron will" and "49-0"?

Bowe didn’t blow guys like Hide or Coetzer away. I think Bowe’s defense was poor, his chin wasn’t great, and his ring focus and preparation were not always there.

Bowe at his best would be my pick, but that was only for 1-2 nights in 40+ pro fights. If you give Rocky those lighter gloves in the 50’s, he has a real chance.

I tentatively favor all the great swarmers over Bowe but they would be hard brutal fights. Bowe didn't use his jab enough, had poor foot work, and tended to fight down to their level by brawling on the inside. While his infighting can be seen as a strength his willingness to engage wrecklessly at close quarters gives smaller men openings to find him with their own power shots.

Evander had alot of success in the first fight, closing the distance and loading up on short left hooks and short rights. Evander neglected the body and couldn't knock Bowe out though and lacked the stamina required to apply constant pressure; once he stopped working on the inside, he started getting caught with the uppercuts and beat up. Which is what the concern is for these smaller guys, Bowe is tough and likely to absorb alot of punishment to his head and body, and with his size he can conserve his energy more, and while not a killer puncher, he hit very hard and usually hurt everyone he fought. A smaller man can't afford to take rounds off against him.

    Prime for Prime.

Hide was down 10 times, 7 were official knockdowns, that's in 6rds!

Coetzer in 44 fights was never knocked out, he was stopped 3 times by Bowe in 7rds,and later Bruno in 8rds and Foreman in 8rds.

    I don't see much wrong with Bowe's chin,who ko'd him?

Holyfield is hardly a Marciano replica though is he? Evander weighed 205lbs he is 6'2" with a 77.5" reach , a 19.5" neck and a 43" chest, his biceps are 16".For their second fight he scaled 217lbs, and he had a top chin.

Nor a Frazier replica but I brought up his success in the Frazier/Bowe fantasy fight thread.

You aren't going to find a perfect duplicate for anybody, you got to draw conclusions from what you have in a fantasy fight.

Does Evander's long skinny frame and 3 inches in height means he has a special advantage in throwing short punches that a Maricano or Frazier simply couldn't replicate against a big man more than willing to give up his height and fight down to his opponent? All it means is their shorter arms could have more torque and Bowe would just dip a little lower so could try to trade punches with them.

Marciano would get stopped early. He's a better fighter, pound for pound, than Bowe but he'd be giving away approx 50 lbs ! A prime and fit Bowe would be too much.

How hard did Golota or Holyfield hit? IMO, Rocky hit harder. Lewis easily hurt Bowe in their final AM match. In fact Bowe was down an another Olympic match vs someone who really did not hit that hard.

Bowe's manager never matched him with big punchers for a reason, even though Morrison, Tyson, and Lewis likely would have meet him. It was all talk.
