The unrelenting, uncompromising crouching ,natural force of Rocky Marciano versus the loping, deceptively clever, upright power puncher Sergei Kovalev. Can Kovalev take Rocky's power? Can Marciano get in range often enough to deliver it? Will Kovalev get Rocky's respect with his long right hand shots? Will Marciano's strength dictate inside or, can Kovalev box smart ,[Hopkins] and mix up his attacks enough to frustrate Rocky? This is over 12 rds at whatever weights suit the combatants. Opinions please?
Marciano outhustles and outpoints KO4clev, possibly stops him. although kliturd logic will say "kovalev has evolved too much by fighting guys lesser than Cornelius white until he turned 30", kovalev and Marciano are both whyte so I don't think they will apply it here. no disrespect to Sergei who I hold in high regard and is one of my all time fav LHWs.
A fighter whose best win was against a far past prime, scared, Bernard Hopkins vs a guy who arguably had the greatest stamina, top 10 heavyweight punch. Why over 12 rounds? If its 12 I think Kovalev could outpoint him. If 15 then Rocky knocks him out every time.
As they used to say in Providence Rhode Island back in the late 1940's and early 1950's when The Rock had his opponent ready to fall..."TIMBER!!!"
Marciano never lose to a light heavy. Marciano by ko. Boxer sub 200 pound would have any chance againts marciano are dempsey, holyfield,& young joe louis. Others would get knocked out..
leave it to Herol to bring skin colour and the Klits into a thread for no reason :good Rocky would take Kov imo,,, prolly by knock out, no disrespect to Kov who seems very solid :bbb
I thought,[rightly or wrongly ],that 12 rounds would give the Russian more of a viable chance. I don't necessarily agree with your ****ysis, it seems far too simplistic. After watching fights for some years. I've learned to expect the unexpected.
Herol posts make me want to punch myself in the head for having read them :-( Why do I do this? atsch I like both these guys but I just can't envisage Marciano losing to a fighter that he had a weight advantage over. Then again I dont think that we have seen the best of Kovalev yet, I suspect he is a much better boxer than anybody gives him credit for. It might just be possible to envisage a fight where Kova builds up enough of a lead in the early rounds to survive the second half of the fight and to win on points. As hard as Sergei hits, I doubt he has the cannons to stop Marciano. I'd say 8/10 Marciano over 12, 7/10 over 10 and over 15 Kovalev gets stretchered out ... Would be nice to see somebody put up an argument for Sergei though.
