More skilled is debatable. But if we are talking styles, Kovalev is better suited. Kovalev is also bigger which would matter some.

GGG would be giving up 15 pounds, and he likes to war. While GGG's chin at middle is A+, he's facing a heavyweight with all time power. Not sure how he would hold up or for how long. I think GGG takes a better shot than Kovalev.

In the amateurs, GGG was a very skilled counter puncher, and used more defense.

Wow, you think Kovalev might have better skills than Golovkin? I think that he's a fine boxer, but I wouldn't have gone so far. His power is brutal though ...

It's debatable in terms of who has more skills. But styles and size make Kovalev better suited to beat Marciano.

Kovalev can move and jab / outfight very well which is the best way to beat Marciano. He's not taking chances. GGG is shorter and lacks the reach to do this as well, even if he has a good jab.

GGG likes to mix it at mid range and up close, opening himself up to be hit more. Rocky was hell to the body as well, and needed to get close to land.

Yes, agreed. This could be a more exciting fight than people think.

stop bigging up ko4clev unduly. hes good enough as he is without inventing fictitious superhuman abilities to him.

There have been plenty of LHWs who have unified just like kovalev, but I don't see any of them beating Rocky and in fact hardly any of them moved up to HW with real success, and that's almost without exception. Theres no reason Sergei beats Rocky just because it suits your agenda.

Be a hell of a battle though.

Could sworn some guy said at the start that Sergei doesn't get out of the starting blocks. I think he'd look OK ... for a while.

The interesting thing here is this:

When we talk light heavies, there are some here who say Kovalev hasn't beaten anyone good. Okay....

Now the some of the same guys who say that think say could be a good fight between him and Marciano.

    An explanation is needed!

If you think Kovalev vs. Rocky is a good fight, then Kovalev likely cleans up all but the very best at light heavyweights.

If you think Kovalev is unproven, then how the heck will he give Rocky a good fight?

My opinion is Kovalev has shown enough to beat much more accomplished men at light heavyweight in the hall of fame, and would be a tough fight for Rocky. Just like Charles and Moore, two former greats at light heavy also gave Rocky a tough fight.

Obviously, Kovalev is skilled, very accurate and could be the best puncher at light heavyweight since Bob Foster.

Last night is an example why it's never wise to jump up and down claiming a fighter is an ATG or could beat an ATG until said fighter proves such abilities. A few body shots, one great right to the chin and Kov caved in like a cheap lawn chair. Kov is not beating Rocky Marciano.

Kovalev is so mentally weak. Terrible stamina. Terrible finishing skills.

Kovalev is a fine fighter at distance but knows jack sh*t about inside work, the low blows were borderline and both wore their protectors high as is the custom today. He was wobbled by the right hand and clearly didnt relish the bodyshots ,the bully got bullied.Weeks had a sh*t night once again and most probably robbed Ward of a clear cut stoppage win,and gave team Kovalev an excuse in short the ref f*cked up.
