Based on what? Charles was LHW cherry pick coming off losses to Valdes and Harold Johnson. Walcott was what? 38? Both way smaller, not in their prime, less stamina, less power and weaker.

Marciano never had met the challenge of facing someone as big, skilled and athletic as Norton and was protectic from lesser challenges in his own era, ie ducking his no 1 contender for 2 years.

    Absolute piffle!

Here are the rankings of Marciano's title challengers, on the day that he fought them:

Jersey Joe Walcott # 1 Ring Magazine

Roland LaStarza # 1 Ring Magazine

Ezzard Charles # 1 Ring Magazine

Ezzard Charles # 1 Ring Magazine

See a bit of a pattern forming here?

    Don Cockell #2 Ring Magazine

Archie Moore # 1 Ring Magazine

That is as far from being a protected as it gets!

Would you like to check out the most recent time a heavyweight champion actually fought the #1 contender?

I will give you a clue, it was a long time ago!

Nino chose not to fight in the title eliminator with Charles that was his own fault and the next time he fought in one against the great Archie Moore whom was better then Norton imo he got beat. Had Nino earned a shot he would have gotten it.
I’d also add Charles wasn’t just a LHW he was an ex hw champ and happened to be arguably the greatest LHW ever.

But Charles was ranked above Valdez when Marciano fought him.

    Sorry to spoil your argument!

Obviously Moore had beaten Valdez when Marciano fought him.

This is the biggest non duck in history!

Frazier was all wrong for Norton and dropped Norton on a regularly - Frazier liked Ken and Ken had much respect for Joe but Joe was the boss in there. Ken could fight going forward but he could not fight backing up- once his opponent hit the tipping point in power and Ken got hurt he stood still- Look at the Foreman- shavers- fights and then look at fights with Garcia and Ledoux - Marciano would stop Ken anywhere from round one to round 8 with a Layne type KO or trapped against the ropes - Marciano KO in 5

For what it's worth Futch said that the green Norton and the prime Frazier sparred on equal terms. As Joe himself said, “He wasn’t sure if he could kick my ass, and I wasn’t sure if I could kick his ass, so we just remained buddies and never fought each other.” The truth was that the timing and the price were never right. And other truth is that Frazier had elements of speed and balance over Marciano, so the comparison is paltry.

    Norton KO8.

In 1973 when Ken Norton rose to fame by breaking Muhammad Ali's jaw on March 31 1973, and winning the verdict in San Diego, California. Both Ken Norton and Joe Frazier were asked if they would fight each other due to the shocking events of Norton's victory. Both responded by saying they were sparring partners and no amount of money was more than their friendship. With that being said, money was flashed in front of them, again they stuck to their true convictions which is admirable in itself. Friendship to them was more important than the almighty dollar.

That crab defense of Norton's is wide open for left hooks. Who back then had a better one than Smokin Joe?

On the contrary Eddie Futch stated that he noticed Frazier wasn't himself in Jamaica after watching Kenny Norton get the better of him. He told Ken he was done sparring with Joe. Futch said "Joe had always handled Kenny in the gym" previously.

Anyway I agree Norton by TKO.

Marciano forces Norton onto the back foot, bullies him and knocks him out.

Marciano takes Ken's best shots and wins a very tough battle on points, imo.
