    Embarrassing.

I am trying to think of another so called top 3 ATG who fell over when he missed with a punch?

I remember seeing Briggs do the same when he fought Lewis, but then again even his own mother probably knew Shannon wasn't an ATG.

at least Marciano knew how to get full leverage into punches...unlike slapsie Joe Calzaghe the arm puncher

You pick a well known Marciano poor performance for what reason?

At least Marciano did what he was supposed to do with a 36 year old Journeyman, he battered him and beat him. Dempsey got knocked out cold in 1 round by his 37 year old journeyman.

My comment was not derogatory to the Rock. I am asking what is the purpose of highlighting a fighters worst performance? What purpose does it serve? Why not instead highlight typical Marciano bouts where he showed all time great characteristics?

If Savold hadnt been old and shot he might have given the Rock some real problems here. His timing was a hair off but he was still catching Marciano on the way in. Savold btw was using the famous St. Paul style that Mike Gibbons made famous.

Was Joe Calzaghe a secret Heavyweight then? I only ask because I KNOW he didn't fall over missing punches. :rofl :rofl

Harry Kid Matthews tried the famous St Paul style. Didn't work out too well for him

I don't use this as an excuse but it should be noted Marciano had the flu when he fought Savold.

....marciano hadn't perfected his head butting technique at this time. notice how he just uses it to get under savold's chin and only push him. he was doing well with his hitting after the bell's weapon, though. three punches after the bell at the end of round two, and one long range miss a little later. i saw this match with a group of fight fans at a bar. before the fight we agreed we couldn't see savold lasting past round two.

as for the flu...all fighters after a bad showing said they were injured in training or had an illness or a bad case of jock itch.

Ahhh great to see you bud. It's been a while. Any good Ezzard charles stories?

You know just because you were part of Ezzard charles entourage doesn't mean you have to underate marcianos ability. Marciano beat a good version of your boy in June of 54. Charles would have always had problems, with Marciano...even in 49. He lost about 4-5 rounds to Valentino in their title fight..had trouble with valentinos pressure

The difference being Dempsey was far short of his prime, he was 19 years old. Marciano was 28 and had been ranked in the top ten for 2 years 7 months after this fight,he won the title.

Its a rebuttal to Suzie Q, the most rabid Marciano fan on this forum and also Dempsey's most phobic hater. I'm demonstrating that fighters have bad nights and when he uses a 19 years old Dempsey's bad night against him for hate purposes I can reply with a 28 year old rated top ten Marcianos less than stellar performance against a tired Lee Savold,a Marciano who won the world title the same year as a matter of fact.

    Calzaghe stopped 32 of his 46 opponents for a 70% stoppage ratio.That's a lot of slapping.
