Dempsey and Rock, I've no doubt s what'so ever win these fights, but how do they pan out iyo? Marciano 1952 challenging Jess Willard the champ? Dempsey 1919 challenging Jersey Joe Walcott the champ?
Marciano breaks the out of shape Willard within 8 Dempsey rallies after being shut out early and dropped to stop Walcott mid rounds. Walcott's fast start would catch Dempsey off guard but at the end of the day Dempsey is the better fighter.
I can see Walcott winning, but not more than I can see Dempsey landing that ferocious left hook and stopping him. Mid rounds, Marciano beats the ****ing daylights out of Willard. Stops him similarly to Dempsey Walcott
I can understand a few thinking Walcott could beat Dempsey tbh Philly, he wasn't far off beating Rock. He was a brilliant fighter at such an advanced age. My own personal view is, Dempsey has to come from well behind to stop him, similar as Marciano. But I've no problem s with those that belive the old guy could beat Jack.
I’d pick Walcott to win...I don’t think to highly of pre 30s fighters though. Dempsey’s raw skills were transitional to any period but as he was he would probably get knocked out mid to late rounds. To many holes in his game that Walcott would exploit. Marciano would do the same to Willard.
Marciano breaks down and stops Willard over 10 rounds. He takes some abuse but weathers the wear and tear. Dempsey would need to get Joe on his old man's legs to win. He's not going to stand there with his chin floating on a balloon string. Joe does well early as Jack tries for the blowout. Then, Jack shifts gears after a few rounds, gathers himself for a strong finish and turns the trick late.
